Aliens: Colonial Marines

I just got the game and I'm dying to play it except that I can't install it because I can't find the bloody product key. Can somebody please tell me where I'm supposed to find it? I've looked on the DVD, in the case, and the manuals and no key. Where did they hide the stupid thing?

Well the PC versions of the game looks like a title from 2006/2007 so the console hardwares are not faulty there. Of course the game is playable and enjoyable but many reviews from the press , journalists and other gamers point out the same issues with the game. lack of challenge, many glitches, repetitiveness ( shoot aliens, open doors, shoot aliens, cutscene, corridors , shoot aliens ), lack of " alien - horror " atmosphere and feeling of fear, terrible AI behavior, problems with animation. The single player campaign suffers from many flaws where the Multiplayer seems to look more enjoyable. But you can't really justify spending 50 bucks on an unfinished title like this one, excepted if you ve been waiting for it for a long time but even...
I think it's probably fair to say that given the bridge now between consoles and more modern computers, to try and design a game that's going to play over various platforms, you're no doubt going to have to make some compromises here and there. Sounds perhaps more so that it has been the computer that has been left behind in this example.
That aside, I am happy to say that after a few hours of playing so far, I have not experienced any annoyances of such that have been mentioned. I'm finding it very enjoyable. I find the aliens can actually quite tricky at times when you've got a bunch coming at you from all directions, walls and ceilings.
I am of the belief that, until we get the next generation of gaming hardware, all this magic that people keep wishing for just isn't going to happen. For now, I'm content. Please excuse me while I go smash some alien *****...

I absolutely refuse to buy any DLC that will help flush out a storyline or give it a proper ending. I'd rather have a **** ending then pay to get something I should get for free.

I'm willing to bet less then 100 people worldwide end up buy the DLC/season pass.

I played a couple hours of campaign and multiplayer with my buddy tonight. It's not completely horrible as some make it out to sound but its still pretty bad. I can't count the number of problems I've had with it but I've actually had a decent time playing.

I'll wait for the 19.99 price tag. Shouldn't take long.

most likely be 19.99 by christmas or this time next year....i can see it going down to $40 by start of summer then continue to drop just in time for christmas

i was really really really looking forward to this game....until i saw the trailers and game play mode......

only thing that enticed me after seeing the crappy trailers was the option of pre-ordering and playing as Hudson....knowing the game will drop drastically in price soon wasnt worth the $50 to play as one of my favorite characters

im happy i didnt purchase it....

The most frustrating thing of this thread is hearing how you guys only pay $50 for a new release game. For Alien, I paid $69 and that's cheap. Here in Aus, 80 to 90 is common and even a touch over 100 is not unheard of for new console games.

I played through the campaign for about an hour last night. I'm enjoying it. Yeah the aliens aren't the brightest, but the game has caused me to jump a few times and it's fun to be in that universe.

The one thing that is pissing me off more than anything is that I have a regular shotgun but then I picked up hicks shotgun while I had my pulse rifle equipped not realizing that it would replace my PR. So I ran around the better part of 1 1/2 chapters with 2 shotguns and no pulse rifle and the real pissoff is that I haven't been able to pick up a new pulse rifle. Just shotgun ammo and grenades.

Admittedly the shotgun has some BS range and I'm still dropping guys a mile away after 4 shots, but as soon as I was using 2 Shotties, my buddies kills literally doubled mine.

I also don't like how the pulse rifle kicks around so much. I aim down the sight to kill an enemy and the damn thing kicks around in all directions like it has parkinsons.

The AI is pretty bad too. There were several occasions where a xeno dashed at one of the marine NPC's, ran into each other, and didn't attack, just ran around to attack me and my buddy. Also half the egg's didn't pop out facehuggers. I got to the point where I just walked up an melee'd them.
Despite the fact I'm enjoying myself so far, this game could of been significantly better.

Considering the next gen systems come out in November / December of 2013 this game will significantly drop in price far before then. I'm guessing easily $20 by time June hits.

You do know you still have the pr you just need to change your quick load out right? You should also have a different assault rifle with a flamethrower option

Same thing happened to me. You hold Y and up is a shotgun and down is a shotgun. Right is a pistol and left a grenade.

Press and hold the weapon select (Y button on Xbox) button and you can switch any weapon at any time..I figured that out with the Hicks shotgun as well...you can also change what grenades you want to throw as well

I had to download it to watch it, that site was buffering every 3 seconds. Gearbox pulled this with Duke Nukem Forever too, the preview stuff looked nothing like the final game.

The gist I get from the leaks about development indicate that they really didn't develop the game at all these last six years.. it sat unworked-on until Sega stopped giving them extensions and they had to cobble something together in about six months based on five year old assets.

Having actually played it, it's not bad.. it is quite moody and tense in some situations (granted, I'm not that far into it, I'm still on the Sulaco). But it's nothing particularly groundbreaking. The worst part is that it quite simply isn't the game that they advertised, nor the one that that could have given us if they had actually devoted any serious effort to it. Despite their words, they simply didn't care one whit about this game.

This video on The Escapist talks about that demo, not in terms of the difference in appearance, but simply that most of what was in the demo is not in the game at all, in any way, shape, or form. They effectively advertised a bunch of stuff that that doesn't exist. I can feel this guy's pain, he's a huge fan of the franchise and was looking forward to it in a bad way. He also has the benefit of being a games reviewer, and the solemn duty/privilege to tear the game to shreds in his official review.

Another sign that they rushed it is that my copy came without a product code sticker in the case and there's at least one other person that has the same problem and there can't be just two of us. What's really annoying me is that I got the game yesterday, was in contact with Sega customer service today but I still haven't gotten my replacement code so I still haven't been able to install the stupid game.:angry

I'm pretty much 100% digital for my PC games. What's a product key? :p

At this point, I kind of feel sorry for the folks that bought this on console. In addition to the overall flaws of the game, they also have to put up with low resolution and poor performance.. at least on PC, we've got that part beat.

That video is going over differences from the demo video and the final game. If you go waaaaay back to the demo of the original Aliens vs Predator the effect for the flares and how they light things is totally different from the final version as well, and not as good as the demo if you ask me,. Not defending the slide back in quality just pointing this out.

Moving on to this game... I got to play a bit more tonight and the reviews i read that said there was little tension like the aliens movie must of been playing a different game than I. The level where you have no weapons and are running from the huge alien, going into the vents, avoiding getting yanked out and welding doors closed behind you had me crapping my pants. I still say this game is getting a bum wrap on some accounts and I would put it at a 7/10 thus far. I still havent tried multiplayer anything.

The demo of the game from a few years back reminded me of DOOM3....now there was a game that you yearned to play in the dark with the sound turned up... hopefully the PC version of Colonial Marines does better in reviews.
