This has been in the works for awhile now but got sidelined by the writers/actors strike. There was some question if they would pickup production after the strikes, but apparently they’re moving ahead.

“The showrunner for the Alien prequel is Noah Hawley, the acclaimed creator and primary writer of the Fargo TV series.

”Although it is an uncommon setting for Alien projects, the prequel TV series will actually be set on Earth several decades into the future, with it exploring competitors of the franchise's Weyland-Yutani Corporation.”

Seeing that the TV series is set to be between Alien and Aliens, I'm guessing some time after the first film but possibly before Alien: Isolation.
