Alien: Covenant (Prometheus Sequel)

I know Im in a minority to really like this design.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

I didn't have any issue with The Deacon. I like it. I think a lot of people were assuming this was supposed to be the "first" xeno, which it's not. I liked that whole scene.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

The Deacon never bothered me, just took some adjusting to. Would like to see more of what he is capable of with Engineer DNA, maybe in the next movie.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

More concept art from the Prometheus FB page. Is it odd that what stuck out to me about this image is his leg is seemingly melded with that pipe, or whatever it is, on the platform?

Poor rendering? Bad proof-designing?

Or is it a reference to what should have been - "Grafting"?

Hmm...fascinating Lutso, can you expand on that?

He does seem to have an inner glow that matches parts of the flooring, hard to tell if the glow on the floor is reflection or not though.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

Hope it's cool to jump in, this is an interesting thread!

I personally turned my brain off, and enjoyed the ride of Prometheus. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with for the next one, especially if a new scriptwriter is involved.

My personal theories - the 'engineers' aren't the actual race that started seeding the galaxy, they look manufactured to me (their version of David?), I'm guessing David and Shaw are going to go to what they think is a homeworld only to find it's long abandoned and has clearly been used to build the engineer-organisms they've already encountered.

Links with the alien monster imply that they're similar to insects in that there's a queen, workers, fighters, etc. This fits with the cloning and mass-production of organisms, which also ties back to human evolution - we're just better looking ants.

As far as the next film, I'm guessing it starts off with an entirely new crew of people and ships encountering David and Shaw - or finding signs of them. Wayland is now dead, presumably there's no real reason to go after him, or like in 'Alien', the corporation and corporate interests have taken over, and the real goal is to secure organisms for biological warfare.

David can repair himself, Shaw will have to go into cryo for any kind of trip - assuming she can use the pods on the ship they're currently on, seems likely she'll be a factor - possibly to keep the corporate folk from bringing the alien back to earth, like Ripley wound up being. Will be interesting to see what happens with David - they did a good job of playing with his consciousness, and you wonder how much free will does he have at this point.

Thanks for posting the concept art links!

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

Welcome to the forum TCRANE

Theres definately a whole who created the creators aspect SRS can explore, the old, craggy Engineers in the cut opening might be a part of explaining that. I hope they dont continue to use Shaw as a Ripley replacement although that dye may have been cast already.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

Thanks Mr. Webber. I hope so as well, but as much as I love Ridley Scott, I wonder at his limited range of imagining female characters - don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Ripley, but I'd like to see more character development from Elizabeth than the 'religious fanatic' kind of angle. Especially since Noomie Rapace is an actress capable of as much depth as Sigourney Weaver.

I'm interested in watching how her character unfolds, and I certainly feel she's capable of carrying a franchise in similar ways as the 'Ripley' character has.

(Can you tell I'm an old school 'Alien' fan? )

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

To me everything in Prometheus suggests the Creators are the gods. Humans "are" David.

A question to you guys who enjoyed the film: Do you want the sequel to follow the style, themes and questions risen in the first film, or would you like it different?

Hell, I loved it and I'd prefer *Prometheus* didn't follow those styles, themes and questions. :lol

Seriously, there's some dumb von Daniken stuff in there and it's hugely disappointing, the simplicity of that stuff. Aside from that the obviousness of the attempt, with the Deacon, to 'explain' the Alien - it's an accidental fusion of different sources - was on the nose.

I know, I know, the Deacon isn't the Big Chap, it didn't end up being a direct Alien prequel, that's not LV426, the crashed Juggernaut isn't the Derelict...but it is. C'mon, we all know that's exactly what it is. The folk who came out of the cinema asking "how did the pilot get back in his chair?!" had it exactly right: this thing wasn't re-written nearly heavily enough.

So...uh...I don't know? Maybe? Or it could go in a totally different direction and really give us something unexpected?

Problem for me is that my enjoyment of the film is largely independent (or in spite) of the quality of the story. So it probably doesn't matter. :lol

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

Pretty much go along with Nwerke, though Im not as down on the story as some, played along with worse in the past. Wanting to see more of Waylands place on Mars and something we havent seen any of, Earth.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

I find the deacon ending being the climax of the "A king has his reign, and then he dies" theme. The parent must die to give place for a child. It also gives closure to the black goo story line.

Im a firm believer in following your vision no matter what critics might say, so I hope SRS keeps it close to Promeheus. Judging by his previous films, Im sure he will.

Re: Paradise (Prometheus Sequel)

I like the additional dialogue of that scene. They should have kept it. It really shows how obsessed Weyland was with immortality.

Even if its not venom, I dont think your actually allowed to post here are you?
