I've tried every paint, ink and fabric pant known to man. Most of them do not work or only work on certain fabrics.

For the circuit board I used a gold metallic spray paint. For the grey symbols and letters I used silver metallic spray paint and then sprayed over that with a grey spray-on fabric paint.

I spray the back of the stencils with a low-tack spray adhesive so they stick to the fabric. Be careful though, depending on the fabric the stencils may leave behind sticky residue.

This little stencil project has been a nightmare. I've spent way too much money on fabric paints, wasted a lot of time and ruined several articles of clothing and just generally made a huge mess.

What about a photo transfer with a single printer and special transfer paper?.




Can imitate a printer the gold color?.

That might work on flat fabric but I do not think it would work on thick quilted material or jacket sleeves etc.

dayum. what was the best brand that came out nicely on the fabric for both the circuit board and the letterings?
really curious now, spent alot on rust-oleum recently

Yea, the sticky part might just be something that happens to all.

I used Meltonian Color Spray (spray can) metallic silver and metallic gold and those worked well. As for the grey symbols and letters I never found a paint that worked very well. What I ended up doing was spraying over the stencils with metallic silver to form a kind of primer coat and then sprayed over that (lightly) with Tulip Color Shot 'grey' fabric spray paint. Then end result wasn't perfect but the letters & symbols came out a grey/metallic silver hybrid.

ALL of the fabric paints I tested, sprays, acrylics, inks etc., all of them bled under the stencils no matter what fabric I tried to apply them too.

I've been hesitant to stencil anything onto my German parka liner because the fabric is very thin ripstop nylon and all of my tests on hidden areas of the fabric have failed. The paints just bleed right through the fabric, even heavy acrylic dabbed on or brushed on.

I used my vinyl adhesive stencil on my Nostromo jacket and had no bleeding. I used simple acrylic paint in tubes, mixed the appropriate color and used a brush. I left the paint thick enough so it didn't bleed. I suggest laying down a few layers until you get the coverage you want. Remove the stencil before it's fully dry so the paint won't adhere to it.

I left the paint thick enough so it didn't bleed. I suggest laying down a few layers until you get the coverage you want. Remove the stencil before it's fully dry so the paint won't adhere to it.

That worked for me but only on thicker fabrics. Sometimes the paint would just bleed under the stencil, sometimes right through the fabric, sometimes both. I'm afraid to try any more on my quilted parka liner. The fabric is tissue thin, padded and has quilting stitching zig zagged all over it. Pretty sure it'll be a huge mess. Maybe I'll just leave the patches on it and nothing more.

I also discovered that their belts are at least 2 of the F-4 Phantom ejection seat garters clipped together plus an additional length of nylon webbing and 2 more steel 'O' rings to make a complete belt.

I guess they​ found a place with a bunch of them and they had the right look.

Yeah and they used about half a dozen of them on the spacesuits too.
