Hi all, new forum user (well, technically I re-registered after my old profile staled out....)
I'm looking for information regarding Alien 3 rod puppet production parts and castings that have popped up for sale over the years.
There seems to be a reasonable number of these, especially heads, and they are variously described as:
- "Production-made"
- "Cast from original molds"
- "Rod puppet maquette cast"
- "Conception maquette" (from an old Christie's auction listing)
They have been described as unpainted, production painted, or sometimes with some post-production or restoration paintwork.
A couple of example pictures taken from past sale and prop house listings:
I don't doubt these originate from the production of Alien 3 or shortly afterwards, but what exactly are they? Are they production made filming spares, or casts made by the crew (including as mementos), or all of the above? And are they likely to originate with ADI, or with the Boss team who created the filming puppet from the original ADI molds?
I've attempted to research this through the RPF forums and I've found a number of older threads that touch on this:

Way back, it seems one of the members here, "seknewb", had worked on these pieces at ADI. From their comments in the last linked thread above (2008!) it seems these most likely originate with the Boss Films team.

Jason, yes - that's the rod puppet sculpt. Never seen those before. And OMIGODWTFBBQ, need to clean pants, etc, etc. Thank you. More? Yes please, A BIT. :lol - - - Updated - - - PS really can't praise that sculpt enough. Gawd it is beautiful work, eh?

ADI /BOSS Film Alien 3 Rod Puppet Maquette raw cast from PiH auction
Hi all !!! this is the huge standing ADI Rod maquette cast from the real Movie Mold !!! only 3 casts excist. 2 in finished form (one broken) and my raw cast !!! stands about 80cm tall !!! Not sure if i leave as is or finsih ??? regards D.
