Alice in Wonderland Armor and other builds

looks great! Nice attention to detail. Might I suggest since u spent so much time , money and attention to the armor, that you invest in an upgraded lace front wig.

How delicate is the fabric you got? From what I've read it sounds maybe a little too satiny for what I am going for. I would like to use more of a vinyl. And you said something about there were other fabrics that you had seen may I ask what and where they are from?

The best way I can describe it is PVC rectangles on a lycra backing. Definitely not a satin but due to the spaces in the PVC it isn't as "thick" as a solid PVC could be. www.spandexhouse.com had one with less of the back showing in their stretch hologram (page 6) but I didn't originally use it because of the hologram effect. However, since I ended up spray painting it anyway, I could have.

It looks like fabric.com is the way to go. When you spray painted it did it make it at all sticky? I've tried spray painting on a couple of other vinyl things and it did I ended up hand painting acrylic.

Actually I was really surprised. It wasn't sticky at all. I used a spray made for plastic - I'm pretty sure it was Fusion but I'd have to take another look at the can to be positive. It is a really light coat of paint - not sure what it would do if it was heavier. The fabric stayed pretty much the same as it was pre-spraying it. And the paint didn't crack when stretched. I did test it all out on scraps beforehand.

Another question, did you use cording around the neck, the scalloped stuff? If so where did you find it?

I found some leather errrmm.....I think it was called spacers or something like that....strips of leather about the same width with holes punched in it. I still have to go in and cut the scallops. I didn't have time before I wore it but will do it before DragonCon. Tandy suggested cutting the scallops in with a hand tool - but the hand tool itself needs to be ground down to a half moon shape. I haven't done much looking since but at the time it was the best solution I could come up with. Definitely a labour of love.
