Air Force Iron Man Mark IV Foam Build (NEW UPDATE 11/12)

Re: Air Force Iron Man Mark IV Foam Build (ADDED ELBOW COVERS)

In the front of the neck seal is where I put 4 rare earth magnets and it works and holds great. The pressure from the chest closes the gap and gives it a really tight seam in the front.

Re: Air Force Iron Man Mark IV Foam Build (ADDED ELBOW COVERS)

I didn't like my old chest piece as it was the first piece I ever made and I was still a rookie at the time, now that my skills have approved I decided to re-do it.

This time I used the 12mm foam I bought and I loved it. I think it came out great. The dark blue places are just where I rubbed in the glue with the tip of the glue gun. It takes away from the clean angles but oh well, when it's all painted, it will look nice.

Re: Air Force Iron Man Mark IV Foam Build (NEW CHEST PIECE 2.0)

I also went to my local Japanese hardware store and found chicago screws. I put them in the arms so far since I don't have the legs built yet. They were as good as I would expect them to.

I do need to figure out a way to reinforce them even though I am using 10mm foam, I still think that after wearing it and moving the arm around a bit that it could cause some problems.

Looking good! Good to see I'm not the only one making stuff in Japan!

Re: Air Force Iron Man Mark IV Foam Build (NEW CHEST PIECE 2.0)

OK guys. I am super excited about this update. Like Boxxy excited. Everyone on here is building foam suits and I want mine to stand out from the rest. Well, lately I have been going through lots of people's Iron Man build threads and no one seems to have done what I want my suit to have and that is.... drumroll....

An under suit showing the mechanics .

So, here is what I have in mind and what I am currently working on.

The first pic is of the Hot Toys Mark III Battle-damaged figure and is what I am using as a reference since this is all by freehand, that pic and some movie screen shots.

The next four pics are of my modified brace section. I just freehanded the front four extra pieces and the two side straps. This will obviously house the mechanic section.

The next five pics are of what I have currently done towards making this a reality. I used the 12mm foam for the ring around the arc reactor but I will be using various foam sizes from 2.5-12mm for the nuts and bolts.

The chest section is going to be removable (obviously) and I am going to make my version 1 chest piece a battle-damaged chest so that I can interchange them. I will have to make other sections battle-damaged as well so that it doesn't only look like I got in a fight with someone who only wanted to steal my reactor.
I have already placed buckles on the Non-BD chest piece and on the back section on both sides where they connect and the top will connect to the collar plates with magnets. This will be how they will be interchangeable.

I still have not started building my legs or boots yet because I thought of this and wanted to jump right on it. What do you guys think?

Re: Air Force Iron Man Mark IV Foam Build (NEW CHEST PIECE 2.0)

Thanks. Since you're in Misawa are you AF as well?

Sure am, You at Kadeana or Yakota? I'm with you on the difficulty of finding the right things you need we go down to a store like Homac (a Wall-mart mashed with a home depot) and we don't know what we are buying everything has some kind of cartoon character or something on it lol

Kadena. And right? We have Makeman (the monkey hardware store) which is exactly like the Homac store you described. I love it here but man, for building stuff and buying supplies, it blows :lol

Sorry for the lack of updates guys. I am still working on the undersuit mechanics and have some progress. I will post an update as soon as I have enough to even make a worthy update.

I do have a side project I am about to start and that is making a ASM suit. I thought, what the heck?, I just saw the movie for like the 5th time yesterday and I really want a suit now. Since that one shouldn't be as difficult as this one, that one might even be completed first.

Your build is looking awesome so far considering availability of supplies. Your idea for battle damage is a great one please keep it up and continue to keep us informed I am very interested to see how this turns out and have subscribed to your thread.

Thanks man. When you start on your Mark VII, feel free to ask me for any help, I will do my best to help you.

I haven't worked much on the suit lately since I went to Tokyo and then playing a lot of Halo 4 and Far Cry 3 but I hope to get back at it soon. It looks so sad on my mannequin... :(

Man that looks good.
Your making me want to start another build, but alas my wife made me promise not till after the holidays are over.
But seriously nice job so far.

Thanks bud. I really appreciate it. What are you going to build next?

great job :) specially with the inner chest details

Thanks man. I feel so bad since I haven't worked on it in awhile and provided you guys with updates. After the holidays look out for some more progress pics. :thumbsup

As a fellow Oki USAF builder, i can appreciate the difficulty in finding parts, but yours is coming along quite well. I am going the paper/resin/fiberglass route which is a lot more difficult when it comes to finding the building materials. Ruined my first helmet with my resin attempt. Keep up the good work, i hope to see it around base sometime soon, yours looks like you're almost done.

Thanks man. Look for a PM in a few.

Also a fellow Japan builder here - I'm mainland Japan and I figure you guys are based in Okinawa? Where are you guys getting supplies from? I'm trying to find some Polytek EasyFlo 120 resin and it's impossible without importing and paying $250 for just delivery!!!
