I wanted some ideas on what airbrush to get for painting latex masks. I am going to try my hand at this and really dont know what to get. thanx for your help

i have a paasche H,its pretty good.I havent had the best luck with my other airbrush, its a paasche,i cant remember what kind it is,but it uses a needle and its a gravity feed, when i put paint in the little cup and press down the button, its like its blowing in reverse,no paint will come out,and it blows paint bubbles in the cup, maybe someone could help me out?p.s sorry to hijack the thread.

I personally (and a lot of other people here will as well) recomend the Iwata eclipse. Depending on your style, you can choose a bottom feed or a gravity feed. I have an Eclipse BCS (bottom feed) because I do more large area work than fine line work.

Bottom feed allows for more paint volume and is easier to change colors. Great for large areas and fine lines.

Gravity feed is good for medium coverage work (less volume paint container), but really excels at fine and ultra fine line work.

Think about ease of cleanup, etc- the testors aztek (the good one not the junk one) is good in that regard. I have a paasche VL. Best advice I have is don't buy the small junky hobby compressors- worthless. Get one with a tank and regulator.

I agree about the tank and regulator on the compressor. I have Iwata compressor and airbrushes. I've owned Paasche, Badger, and Aztek brands (in that order) and Iwata was the first brand that I cant say I regret. I have done huge murals with every brand and the brand of the airbrush and the type of compressor are critical to excelling with the craft. I beat my head against the wall for years and only recently rekindled my love for airbrushing with the purchase of iwata gear a year and a half ago. Incredible stuff, and I got it all at dixieart.com as well.

Yeah, I have always heard Iwata is the best- out of my price point when I bought- I guess we should have mentioned budget as a factor as well..hehe... You have to factor in how much you are willing to spend overall- period. Then decide how cheap you can get a good compressor with tank, reg, trap, etc. You don't need a big tank...3 or 4 gallon... the rest of the budget goes to the brush. I guess we all agree on double action internal. And that the cheaper aztek is a paperweight...hehe. And of course you want accessories, like color cups, needles, etc. Some offer more than others. And buy LOTS of extra bottles, an extra aircap assy, etc. And use a good hose and teflon tape.

I have had a few, the aztec is not a bad brush, i now use an iwata hp-ch, grreat for fine details veins etc on masks, not to hard to use
