Affordable SW costume?

Well guys, having sold my almost-finished Vader a few years ago, I am currently without a costume. I've got a costume party coming up in April and I'd like to put together something cool, but affordable since the wife and I are saving for a vacation. It doesnt have to be PERFECT, but fairly convincing.

So far I've thought about a Royal Guard and just making the robes myself, then I'd just have to buy the helmet, but those buckets dont go up for sale too much that I see. Thought maybe I'd throw this out to the costuming forum and see if there were any ideas.

Worst case scenario, I will probably just do Qui-Gon and leave out the saber, but I'd like to pull off an Imperial if I can. Oh, since I've got long hair, anybody without a mask aside from Qui-GOn probably wont look right.

I know, tall order, but any ideas? Thanks!

You could always make a scaled up paper model...doesnt cost much..some printouts...some glue..

Here is what I did a couple years ago...

costumebase (last i looked on the bay) had almost full decent costumes of plenty of characters for 100- or less, but otherwise, royal guard is easiest (a robe a helmet and a force pike)...

The coolest people I know go RFT.

Awesome! I better not show that to my kids or they'll want one.

As for a cheap costume - Jedi was the first thing that came to my mind - If you want to go Imperial, that is tough if you want to keep your long hair.

How about an imperial officer?

It is quite easy to make something that many people recognize as a Jedi, but it takes a bit of money, time and effort to make a good Jedi costume.
There are too many muslin cloaks out there.

A Jedi is NOT a cheap costume, unless you're going for a bathrobe Jedi with cheap fabrics, vinyl boots and belt, and a plastic toy lightsaber.

QFT. The problem with a "cheap" costume, is it generally LOOKS cheap. That being said, the Rebel Fleet Trooper is probably the most economical one there is. The boots are an investment, but the nice thing is you can use them for other costumes.

True. And even then, if you're lucky, and have a normal shoe size, you can get decent boots for a good price.
And then you can reuse them for Imp Officers, Pilots... all kind of things.

Plus the nerf DH-17s make getting a blaster cheap and easy.

Even then, black boots are easy to come buy. I can't wear the German boots with my RFT since I have large feet and legs, but any black boots will do, really. And it's wonderful because they can also be used for X-Wing, TIE, Royal Guard, and even Vader in a pinch. :)
