Adam ant on a mannequin

about a year or so ago i thought i would give my old teenage jacket some love & build a costume around it
on a budget i said to myself but being that i like accuracy & it is the RPF after all, that kind of went out the window
being lazy i trawled for images even though i still have my old posters & books then eBay & etsy for bits & bobs going off the VA images mainly, then one day on one of my many image searches to my surprise some of them linked back here to greenmachines thread
i cheated & skipped to the end  ( great costume & likeness by the way top job ) i am glad i did since it eventually helped me with the skull buckle from ivans i searched locally & eBay but they were either too expensive or out of stock so thanks to GM i could finally find peace because it was doing my head in ha ha
i am stuck on the belt now though tall pyramids or the cone version i did buy some pyramids but they are too low profile so no good
bought a french flag for the waist might need 2 & some polka dot fabric i think the dots are a little on the large side on my fabric but it will do for now
going with the plain white no frill shirt & a cheap faux suede jacket to cut up to use the sleeves for the main part of the boots & the rest will be for the tassels & maybe to cover the mannequins feet i will probably buy some ready made tassel for the trouser sides

anyway enough waffling here is the jacket & a clue or two as to where it was purchased it is very basic but it is a little bit of ant fan history i guess

the adverts are from the smash hits magazine and my jacket centre is the actual jacket purchased via the ad

54434123111_40dbaffe4f_h.jpg

and here are some of the bits i have purchased i also have feathers just not took pics yet

54433862556_f892f0d44b_h.jpg

the buckle will do for now for a 2" belt until i can save for or find one in the wild
also well done again to GM for finding the square buckle i had the feeling it would found in that area but i was thinking maybe Camden market

i hope you can make sense of my rambling thanks for looking

Goosebumps. Really good goosebumps. This is awesome. I will ask, is it OK to place a link to your thread in the other?

I am super jazzed that you found the dolphin and other chain decorations so, of course, want to hear about each and if you are willing, links to sources. We have NOT found these items so it would be very cool.

Oh, and your square buckle is awesome, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't a legit match to buying the one from LondonLeatherman.

Oh snap! You've found the dolphin chain decorationo_Oo_O So far so good in terms of accessories (that square belt buckle is tops). No need to say that greenmachines is your friend right now:p:p:cool::cool:(y)(y)

ok so the buckles come from here click me i bought the 50mm to use & the 45mm for fun more info below

dolphins vintage also eBay random sellers my one is a match for the VA

the whistle click me it looks like the VA one construction wise if you get me & its shiny & new

the chain belt etsy click me i went with the shortest 50cm no need for full wrap around for the mannequin just to hang the bits off

feathers eBay or hobby shop i got ostrich larger ones & smaller other normal ones at my local hobby place
i will probably get a couple more ostrich feathers

the silver horn of plenty on the chain in the pic above next to the leather strip was sold as vintage & a good match again to the VA one regarding the curve etc: its all about the curve baby haha

the leather strip is eBay i bought 2.2 metres of 3mm flat brown leather cord ( key word flat ) also matches the VA one

box chain eBay 2mm Stainless Steel length i think my one is short so need a longer one

large kilt pin eBay i bought a 3.5" one but i think it should maybe be closer to 2" in comparison to the dolphin 45mm-ish

eBay red arm scarf thingy not pictured i just went cheap and bought one of these click me

the large buckle for a 2" belt is 50mm x 45mm inside & flat the smaller is 45mm x 45mm inside but has a curve

Oh, and your square buckle is awesome, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't a legit match to buying the one from LondonLeatherman.
after looking & using my cheap image software it does seem to be closer to this one in size & cheaper i bet

if anyone requires better close up photos of individual items just ask & ye shall receive

thanks for looking

ok so delivered this week
the ladies fashion belt was sold as vintage 80s found it by accident while searching for belt buckles not sure on the size when compared to the VA one the leather strap part looks longer on my belt

the bandana/bandanna or kerchief  i have been patiently waiting for in the post a bit of a grail piece for me woo
the VA one looks to be a slightly misaligned print

54443794665_32d71ee038_h.jpg

i found a dog collar that looks the part & the links seem to be the same width as my belt 25mm-ish but i don't think they can be found anymore & i don't have one

Ancol Heritage 3 Row Heavy Chain Collar discontinued probably
54443100237_815f7b6326_b.jpg

you could probably buy a 3 row chain dog collar & add the strap using a small leather collar that's what i might try
so i can get a better overall length since i don't really want to alter my belt decisions decisions

thanks for looking

i knew adam had skulls on his trousers but i couldn't work out the squarish looking part of it
so i decided to search for - Adam ants trouser skulls - & it took me back to the VA this time i decided to actually read the info

54659342833_7bf18612f5.jpg

first i found a seller of one in the usa then found a seller in the uk pics below
i got a bit carried away
link to UK seller click me
USA Kawasaki pin seller click me

the gold ones can be seen on the stand & deliver trousers also with what looks like Adams hair ribbon going through/around the skull wings

54628158558_fdec76207b_b.jpg

54659634915_f1daf4d752_b.jpg

also picked up this belt added my buckle just needs the studs & make the end pointy

54626449621_a324ea90f5_b.jpg

that other random belt appears to have a five arrow version of a Brodie clan brooch
the pic i found seems pretty close
this auction could be handy for sizing maybe ? click me

This is incredible research.

The pants seem complete now. The fact that there were two sets, being different colors, REALLY SETS THE SCENE for our future research. This means that all of our talk about "it looks gold in this picture", versus, "but in this picture, it looks silver" is actually correct. This carries over to several other Gold / Silver pieces.

But having already sourced vendors????? You freaking rock!

I totally agree on the color passing through each of the skulls (on the pants) being his hair ribbons. So, not just red, white and blue like his sash but all the colors he uses in his hair decor to tie in the tiny braids.

I also had never target locked onto the fact that there is black leather fringe the full length of both pant legs (outside). Likely will need to be added as I have no such thing in my pile.

On the belt:
Because you will be hand applying, you have made the way to be screen accurate. Most belts that I have found, with the appropriate shaped (but not size) studs, have four rows instead of 3. 3 is correct and the sizing in mm will need to be predetermined for ordering AND get the appropriate stud punch and hammer kit if it has one available to drive them in without damage.

Big Caution: We had, at first, thought there was a black colored row or a missing section but with higher resolution photos, found that the black sections are just the leather (faux likely) belt loops going over the belt. This loop covers one stud column precisely, shapes to it and makes it look black and/or removed. So, in truth, only the very ends are without studs (to the best of our current searches).

And remember to do trial runs on making the end pointy because of the length issue. Adam may have done this due to need but, for whatever cause, it puts us in a bind we must focus on or look slightly off. We see gold studs right up to the buckle on the buckle end. Why? Because the adjustable end has been made to end, precisely, within the buckle. Just the tiniest bit of belt end tip is passing behind the bar of the other side of the buckle but NONE of it protrudes out over the first row of available brass. This is not a life altering necessity AND will continue to pop out from under the buckle when moving around. I don't doubt it may just be in this one picture while being one hole tighter elsewhere. But going by this one photo, we see even the first row of brass with no belt end covering it. Definitely worthy of some discussion as to importance.

However, one thing that will stand out, the one more adjusting rivet hole showing exactly centered in the buckle. This means the belt is NOT adjusted to the first hole but to the second one. The first hole sits exposed within the buckle. Again, not life altering but if you already are customizing the belt.....

The clan pin:

Another incredible find and research already completed. You have definitely found the correct design. Remember that silver smithing is a loose art and designs are often duplicated by hand during molding and casting. To find an EXACT match would be rare indeed. But the only time anyone would see a difference would be while holding one in the right hand and the other in the left. It doesn't even come down to vendors but just a single run difference. Letters slightly different or a bulge here or there are all common differences from one run to the next or even within the same batch.

As for the five arrows..... whoa buddy.... that will be a sourcing issue, so, if you already have a source, definitely share. I could not find a single matching version. All Brodie clan had 3 and at a different angle. Sometimes this hints at a family altered clan pin. The number of arrows can represent different things so the five may be a custom meaning. This will take a deep dive unless you already have a vendor.

Also, of note, it looks like Adam removed the fleur de li looking item from the bottom in order to round it out (or it is covered, or it was pre broken).

THANK YOU!!!
