Ace Replica's portal guns, anyone know these guys?

Found this facebook page for some guys selling Portal gun replicas for around $1000 if I understand right.

Seems kinda high, what do you guys think ? I am not endorsing or advertising the page, and am not affiliated with them, just getting opinions.

Didn't one of Volpin's portal guns sell for something like $12,000 at a charity auction? So comparatively $1000 isn't that much.

Well, that was Childs Play, Valve bought it for that much because it was for a good cause. I can't imagine your average individual paying that much.

Also, the radio in the picture looks like this guys Radio. I don't know if it is, but the wonky Bezel on the front looks similar

Not quite. I believe Valve got the first one as per Harrison's arrangement with them, but the second was auctioned off to the high bidder publicly at the Child's Play dinner. I was phone bidding on it, and at the end it was just me against another phone bidder, the CEO of xe.com. I figured he probably wouldn't give up without winning it and he obviously had deeper pockets than me, but at least I made him pay dearly for it. Hey it's for charity, right? :cool
 
Ah, my mistake, I just assumed they bought it because he had this photo and said the one in the foreground was from the 2010 auction;

Definitely!

I've been a big PA fan for a while now, I'm hoping I can get something in one of their auctions one day even just to meet the guys. :lol

Yup, the foreground one was the CP gun, the one in the back with the GLaDOS potato belongs to Valve.

I don't know much about Ace, but he has posted to my FB a few times in the past. Seems like a nice guy, and just now getting into taking orders for props. I do know his first gun was destroyed in shipping when it went out to the buyer though. Bad luck

Not sure what you mean by cheap, but $1000 is way to much too pay for the gun ace is selling based on the pictures I've seen.

With a little bit of time you could make a much better one. I had a chance to build one this year and including the electronics I spent under $300 on mine not including stuff I bought and didnt use or needed to replace. If you are looking to buy I recommend one of throwing chickens kits, but with a little bit of work you could make your own portal gun from scratch.
