ABC warrior construction thread

looking great Smoke wow you've made great progress with your build! The piping and tubing (pvc?) look excellent.

Hey smoke what are you doing for a head?

The piping is .375"- 2.0" PVC and CPVC. The tubing is .25" -.375" vinyl. The ribbed tube is .50"-.75" ENT Conduit. As for the head, because this a wearable costume, I sculpted a head slighlty wider then the original, made a casting, made some corrections, then cut it up to make the face and back panels removable. Now I need to mold the head pieces and make new castings. I plan the make the back of the head slide out using an old DVD tray and motor. The head will actually sit on top of the persons head that wears the suit and vision will be through a clear upper section of the jaw, which is slightly visable in the attached pic. Other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :wacko

AWESOME!! Hey great to see another scratch built head. I think Your positioning of the head is pretty important in pulling off the ABC look, too low and he will look hunched and too high and his neck will be weird. Good luck! I guess you can disguise your head with a black balaclava and pipes.

Nice work Smoke great seeing this build it definitely helps with my motivation1

Hey Smoke that's looking AWESOME! Can't wait to see you in it (or not see you if you know what I mean :) ) The proportions look excellent at a glance, that thing is going to be freakin' huge!

hey all wow it's been.......about 8 months since I looked at this thread. Wow time flies I have had little time for advancing the ABC build but recently I've had a chance to get back to this itch which MUST BE SCRATCHED.

Can't seem to leave this project alone so took out the beginnings of my build and had another look. I've decided to stick with my 10mm plywood frame clad in plastic approach. But I will be looking to add a layer of epoxy (or maybe polyester) over top of the cladding so I can do a bit more shaping and get a more sculpted finish.

This thread has become a bit of mongrel but I'm going to keep with it because of all the great builds already in here :).

Anyway here are a couple of crappy WIP pics. I'm using 1mm styrene to clad the plywood frame and I'll be laying up thickened epoxy over the top of that.
I'll post more pics about 8 months from now when I get another chance to work on this :p

ootagoota, Great to see you back at it again. I stepped away from the project for the summer due to home renovations but should start back up soon. Please provide more pics.:rolleyes

Hey Smoke! Yeah I can't leave it alone. I've made a bit more progress on the feet, mainly locking off a few dimensions and some of the construction approaches. Hopefully if I post more pics it will help you get back to yours. It's always nice to have someone building something at the same time

I've had to change a few things on the feet in light of the wonderful pics from Vince Vader which I have studied at length. I am finding more and more inconsistencies between the screen used robot pics and the tsukuda kit. However the model is still a wonderful kit to have on hand.

More (and hopefully better) pics soon I promise!

oota goota, I see that you're working on the boots, I posted some picks of the boots I made on my photobucket page in hopes that it may help. In an effort to keep the weight down mine are constructed using mdf, plastic, foam board and foam (they still weigh 15lbs each).:facepalm

wow nice foot Smoke! You make it look so easy :). I'm going to go back to my foot and borrow (ok steal) some of your ideas thanks man!

Finally built a single point stand, so now I can get back to work on this beast. Lots of sanding to do and I still need to cast the head. :lol

It's looking fantastic Smoke nice job man! Great to see it almost in one piece. Are you going to shoot some footage when it's together?

Sigh nothing to report on my build. It has completely stalled I really only have one other project on the boil but it's taking any spare time I have.

I did make a bit more progress on the foot ...but ....it's like...ONLY THE FOOT!!! THERE'S THE REST OF THE DAMNED ROBOT TO GO!!! I think I might have a go at the head sometime and then maybe meet in the middle?

how's everyone else's ABC projects going :p
