A screenwriter's meeting in Hollywood

THAT WAS GREAT!!!!!!

The thing is - it's 100% true - i mean, it's not even really a joke. i've been on countless meetings like this and you know what the most amazing thing is - they always land A list writers to do this garbage. Orci and Kurtzman (hacks - but A list) are doing viewmaster as we speak. Such a sad state we are in when it comes to movies - thanks a lot for the link.

From what I've learned in my producing class, the reason why Hollywood keeps doing adaptations and remakes, instead of a lot more original movies, is because of risk vs. reward. Basically, when it comes to adaptations or remakes, there's a pre-existing fan-based and they know that those fans would go and see it, where as for original films, they do not know for certain if anyone would see it. Adaptations and remakes have less risk of losing money than original films.

It's true. Mental real estate is a powerful thing. I just can't believe we've reached a point where Battleship, Viewmaster and other toys that kids don't even play with nowadays are being made into movies. What fan base is there for viewmaster? People remember it - but jeez, make a Legend of Zelda movie - or even a watergun war movie - don't go digging around hasbro for ideas.

Cash brings a lot to the table in this equation. We face the worst economy in 65 years, so what do people do when they are down, buy booze, eat junk/comfort food and long for the "good ol' days." So, do we try to wow them with new or surprise them with a polished up familiar thing that they can get the warm fuzzy about. Seems logical to me, if not exactly creative.

So where the he** is my Space Academy movie? :lol

When the city turns dark, when danger lurks around every corner. When fear is the mantra and despair is the daily course. One man makes a difference. Phil McKrakkin is the city's unsung and unknown, hero. He holds the key to peace and prosperity. When the city residents are beyond redemption, he simply shakes it clean and redraws it anew.

Wasn´t there a huge deal closed with Hasbro for a lot of their classic games like Monopoly and others, meaning they now HAVE to make those movies since the company already paid for the rights to those classic game names and concepts (where I can´t see how the gaming concepts really can be worked into movies) ?

Well guys, I can understand your reserves about "Battleship" being turned into a film. But, honestly, the only good board game-to-movie adaptation I've seen (probably the only one I've seen) is "Clue" (1985). Oh, come on! "Over my dead body," became Tim Curry's signature line of dialogue!

At least Clue wasn't taking itself seriously. What's sad is Robot Chicken beat hollywood too it with their spoof with Chutes and Ladders and Hungry Hungry Hippos. Looks like all the original movies will be getting made as B movies as always.
