These are good points as well, and a good illustration of why I asked the question. It seems like it would be ok to do this since I'm really just wanting to restore or replace the one helm, which I DID pay the original manufacturer for and who no longer produces them, but at the same time It does seem like it might not be entirely ethical.
Admittedly, part of my motive here is the fact that I'm on a very limited budget, but, as some of you pointed out, casting it could cost a lot more than I'd bargained for anyway.
Like I said, on the one hand it seems ok, but on the other I keep hearing "Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny..."
