A L I E N FIVE Neill Blomkamp's ALIEN movie

Most fans do already ignore 3 & 4. I haven't watched them in years. I don't hate them I just don't care to watch them again.

Neill Blomkamp Says His Alien Sequel Won't Undo Alien 3

This was already shared earlier in another article, but thought I will bring it up again so there is no further confusion.

Well, he's doing a bit of equivocating here. He's being considerate and to dismissive of 3 and 4 but he's also going to likely make a film that will contradict the events of those films, it would be impossible otherwise if Ripley is going to be in it and it's based off the first two. Let's call a spade a spade, here. As far as a title, I could see using a construct like Resurrection did, call it "ALIEN _____".

There is ignoring, as in not addressing the events of those films at all, and then there are creative ways around them - hypersleep dreams, artificial person replacements, mistaken identity, this:

“My favorites are the first two movies. So I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.”

Than what kind of a story was he trying to convey through his sketches? This is starting to feel like Prometheus all over again in terms of how it's connected to the rest of the franchise.

I'd guess that Mr B is being somewhat restricted by what is going to happen in P2 as well as other considerations. Its one thing to have an idea for a film but its another thing altogether to see if this fits in with the studios scheme of things. I don't see any reason why he just doesn't say "**** it" and ignores 3 and 4, god only knows I wish I could. The only really restraint he has with a new story is the involvement of the key character of the series. Take her out then he could do what he wants with it. I'd say start afresh with new characters ,a new story line with elements that integrate from the first and second movies and forget the rest.

I don't think it solves any problems at all, just an example of a creative way around the issue without completely ignoring the events that took place in 3 and 4 - even if those events took place in Ripley's mind or a sim.

Just watched Sigourney on Jonathon Ross. She looks great for her age!!! He asked about Alien 5 but all she could add about the film was that Neil B was a huge Alien fan and he'd done the artwork that we've all seen. It doesn't look like they have much of a story as yet. And Sigourney added she will be shooting the Avatar sequels over the next few years though not as exactly the same character. So they have plenty of time to work on the script then.

How many marines are still combat grunts for 30 years though?
Seems juuuuust a bit of a stretch.

The fanboy part of me wants to hyperventilate, but how often does this fan service stuff actually satisfy? I mean, we all wanted Boba Fett in the PT too...besides, there's something appealing about how top to bottom nihilistic Alien 3 is. The heroes have to die sometime.

I'd venture that the success of Alien:Isolation would indicate that the fan base is most interested in revisiting the first films. I wouldn't call this fan service, I think its a great opportunity to bring life back into this franchise without doing an entire reboot.

TBH, I would sooner see a movie based around Isolation than this. Smartly fitted into the canon timeline, totally 'got' the first movie and clearly a labour of love.

Retcons :facepalm
