Come on KIT! FOR SPARTA!! Can't tell me ya didn't like the pieces O' body parts flyin around. Carlart is mad because that's his great great great grandaddy who told the Persians about the goat pass.

Dude,
not for sparta...not for andrew ...not for nothing. you know what pisses me off more than anything is the fact that it took my wife to see it....

we don't go to the movies often enough and to see this meanless piece of dibble, now means that i'll have to sit through the sisterhood of the traveling pants part 2 or some other chick flick.

and the iceing on this cake is the 2.5 hours of my life...i'll never get back

thanks sparta.

whatever andrew, that movie kicked ass! I agree with Lee on this one, its a movie based on historic events told in a relatively truthful light minus the fugly mutations and such. No need to get upset. Europe is just mad that it can't produce kick ass movies like this one

Best line of the entire movie...

Xerxes: "There are many things that our cultures could share with each other."

Leonidas: "Havn't ya noticed? We've been sharing our culture with you all morning"

I was laughing for 25 minutes after that one. SPARTA FTW!!!!!

The film is based around ACTUAL historical events, nothing to do with current world situations, stop reading into things too much and just enjoy a film.

I know it's based on actual events. It has everything to do with current world situations, I enjoyed the film because it does.

There are certain things that should be taboo on this board, especially my past family members! Damn you for bringing that up, Scotty!

omg that movie was sooooo ****** awsome
love that line
we've been sharring our culture with you all morning hahaha
i couldnt stop laughing at that
it basically had some of everything in it except anything for kids to see

Well I've not managed to see this one yet, but you can't exactly get away from it over here. First impressions are as follows. Visually this movie looks fantastic incorporating images that have that comic art kind of feel, not suprising really seeing as we know it came from a graphic novel. The battle scenes from what I've seen have that frenzied energy that makes such things great to watch. As for the story? Well I can't say I was expecting much and from what I've read and been told from reviews and those that have seen it, pretty much matches my expectations. But that doesn't mean I won't be going. I'll pay my money just for the eye candy.
Historical accuracy? Well come on!! It my be based on real events, but "based" can cover alot of ground. Just take the texas chainsaw massacre as an example. That had the most tenuous links to actual events, but hey it's a movie. The only thing that does get my back up is when film studios take big liberties with history and distort the facts out of all proportion. Just look at U571 as an example of getting it WRONG So long as history is taught accurately in schools that's the main thing. So our kids can get the facts first rather than relying on movies for their historical education. Anyway I'll shut the hell up now.

Cheers

I try to stay as far away from political thought as possible when I watch for entertainment. lol As for it being current to what is happening, well it is no secret that we as a society do not leanr from our mistakes. We perpetuate them over and over and.....

You're probably right Shai'tan. I just thought it was nice to see some deeper meaning and themes infused into the script, rather than just a bunch of guys slamming each other. I really liked the speeding up and slowing down of the slicing and killing thrusts, it took on a sort of "ballet" like form to it---those guys were anything but prancing ballet dancers!

You could tell the stylized movement was part of the aritstic expression on the film. It may rub people the wrong way, like some of the very stylized scenes in Excalibor, but in a lot of ways both were like watching a moving painting. To have age-old principles added in to 300----sauce for the goose.

Only has anything to do with todays political climate IF you sit there and try to find things, **** that can be said for virtually any film.

Keith, jealous ! !, dont make me laugh !! maybe your just jeaous that you had to have a Mainly Brit cast to do the film justice?

The film was great imo, and box offic records kinda show that alot think the same way, and i totally agree about the film having a arty feel to the fight scenes which is a nice touch and no doubt will be copied very very soon

btw Britain sits under NO ONES umbrella

Sorry guys.

I cannot call anything today a GREAT Movie.

Now Ben Hur. That Was A GREAT movie. Spartacus. That Was A GREAT movie.

Cary

LOL, Lee. There are alot of great American actors, you have to admit. One thing i don't understand is that whenever a movie is made that is set in an ancient time, mainly war movies, the directors think that everyone has to have a British accent. I'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure that the Romans and Greeks didn't speak English nor did they have an english accent. I guess it just makes it sound genuine, still total BS though, lol. But a great movie nontheless. YAY 300!!!

"Gary" Butler has a great Scottish accent IMO that really helps to deliver his lines as a warrior-king... And yes, American actors are great too, all nations better actors are great.

Keith, would you have rather it been made with them speaking greek? point remains you made a sarcy comment about US not being able to make such a film, yet imo THE ACTORS help make such a film.

Just the same as mentioned above with the Enigma machine, you made a film then pretended like you actually got the enigma, when in fact it was this little island that did it.

Were going off topic though from what is a well made/directed and acted film.

so lets cut out the were better than you blah blah blah eh

ooooooooooh were cousins now are we

lol naaa just sometimes you guys forget about us in the uk.

as Ricky Gervais said.

"Im from a little place called England, we used to rule the world before you guys "

What's to forget about you guys? The structure of our society, laws, etc. all were founded by British citizens landing on Plymouth Rock who later became Americans. Common ground aplenty.
