Here's my unfinished entry. It was to have another section on the bottom and other greeblies added to it plus paint, of course. No lights and manual extending. While I can see it's not good enough to have won, the competition was too fierce, I still like it and probably will finish one day.

In the end all the entries were very cool and everyone should be proud of theirs. I'm very anxious to see who made what and what they used

Thanks for singling me out, Mercury

Well, I'm not dissatisified with the contest or how the voting that has been posted has gone. When voting is public as opposed to a juried contest, you're gonna get the people's choice. People vote for what they like, rules are for the contestants, they mean nothing to the voters. All I am trying to convey is that *I* personally would wish for the NEXT contest is a little clearer guidelines for entrants, and plain presentations. This has been a great first outing and yes, next time, I'll ask LOTS of questions.......:)

In this image you posted, as with some of the sonics posted, I can't even see the forest for the trees--which may just be a personal problem, IDK

Great, now I feel bad...:confused

I meant you're very open, you say what you mean, you don't beat around the bush. I respect that. :cool

Glad this experience will help everyone the next time and also impress the need for an open discussion of rules so to avoid any shades of gray or confusion. I also agree with you about the "forest for the trees" in that pic. I'd add that it was submitted, like the other one, with a separate pic showcasing the saber by itself.

There's actually a drink called the "Sonic Screwdriver" it's blue (For Tennant's Sonic).

It's made up of Vanilla Vodka, Blue Curacao, and Sprite. Very tasty.

We've got friends over and we're just enjoying a round of those right now. Very nice, clean and fresh.

I would just like to say to #17, (or whoever wins) Never mind all this talk. Whatever the thoughts, theories, and ramblings, of the rest of us may be, you and the other winners. deserve the win, and the prizes that go with it. The pictures are up there, because the pictures, and the entries within those pictures, all fit within the rules of this particular contest. We, all made, what we made, we took the pics, we took, and the cards fell where the did. On, this forum, in this contest, at this time, the folks that won, won, and deserve to. The rest of us, will just have to take a hard look at ours, and if we like them, and think the rock the way the are, then put them on a shelf, and shut up. :) If you don't like yours, or you think you can do better, do it. A bar has been set, and next time we will all know what to shoot for. And to the winners, I also say, you all set that new bar, so be proud of your work. :)

I can't wait to see what saber....... I mean, sonic, belongs to who.

Just my 2cents worth, not ranting, not raving, not hyperventilating, just saying......

Well, that's how I interpreted the "no replicas" in the contest rules, that it was to be "a 'Sonic, that doesn't look like a Doctor who sonic contest'". And by the very name of the contest "Custom Sonic Screwdriver Contest" that it was to be "What would your sonic screwdriver look like, if you were the doctor contest"

And as I said, I thought it wasn't suppose to look quite like any of the screen used Sonics, but yeah, after the voting started, you could see quite obviously most people were voting for the ones that looked like what they were most familiar with, the ones that did look like one from one of the Doctor's.

And a couple of thoughts on the pictures of the entries.......
Several were being held in a hand, and I'm just assuming they were being held by the builder?? I don't know how many others in the contest were female, but I being one, if I had held mine, it would have been kinda obvious it was a female hand and thus smearing some of the anonymity we were suppose to be maintaining......and also per the "presentations", I think next contest there should not be any artsy presentations, I think it should be a cappella, bare naked sonics (or whatever item), just the item on a plain background as fancy advertisement-esque presentations have a power to sway and because it was a sonic screwdriver build contest and not a graphic arts contest.

I'm sure I'm in the NoVotes Club, not surprising me at all considering my methods, means and materials, but I did get a couple of mentions, and that there make me happy enough! Really it does. And really it was a lot of fun, and really I'm ready to build another! Thanks again, The Next Doctor for putting this all together.

You know, the thing is that if I were to have entered this I would have made a collage of pictures. Plain background for three or four of them to show the different angles and one with a setting that may have included different props based on Doctor Who and, thing is it isn't to make a better more glitzy presentation or make anyone else look bad if they didn't, but more to put the Sonic in context so people could see where the designer is coming from. This is the reason I liked #17 so much. Great presentation that really made you understand where the design is coming from. However the sonic on it's own was a tad too hodge podge for me so I voted it down . Now my favorite is #31 but it's not from the presentation but because it really does look like a sonic screwdriver. Yes, it's similar to the Tennant sonic but thing is I think a Sonic Screwdriver SHOULD look similar to established designs. Don't get me wrong, it's not like you can't go outside the box of the established designs but sometimes that can backfire I find for the reason of not having anything to put it into context hence my finding many designs to be kinda lightsaber-ish to me. It's like...if i used a miniature ROTJ Luke lightsaber as a sonic screwdriver...it just doesn't work for me.

I won't speak for everyone, but my vote was based on the one I liked the best. There are a lot of entries I like a lot, and wouldn't mine having, but I looked at it like this. If these were available and you could have only one, which would you want?

It's still #31...and #4. With a slightly smaller halo and a different colored light I would TOTALLY own that one.

Oh, don't feel bad, good grief!

Now I feel bad!! I usually get beat up for being open and saying what I mean and not beating around the bush:lol so thanks for that!

I know I shoulda shut up or shoulda not posted nothing cause going back and re-reading my posts it does sound like I'm whining and calling sour grapes and all dat, but really I'm not. I mean, I knew in the very beginning the mentioning of lathes and machining and wiring and lights and sound chips that the competition was gonna be pretty stiff. HA! My tools were an Xacto knife, a file and some sand paper. So my entry wasn't even meant to really compete as you will completely understand when I post my How-NOT-to :lol:lol:lol:cool. But I know it was very serious for some and I just feel that the playing field wasn't level enough.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I didn't mean any disrespect to the other entrants and whoever the winners end up being. Yes, they certainly deserve to win and I will be happy for whoever they are.

If our votes hadn't went to ourselves.....and I don't know if this was a rule, or just an assumption, but if I have/had a vote I'd not voted for me own, but for #31. I just love those little gears in the extension--that is just way kewl.

I'll have to give my vote to #35, but only just. There were a lot of other awesome screwdrivers, but in the end there was only room for one vote from me.

only about 35 minutes left here in ohio, but I don't no what cost gets to call this thing over. People asked that a couple of time in my contest. EST, WST, etc. HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO GO. I just can't wait. I'm number........... Ah, my girlfriend said I have to wait, so I will. :b

I have asked the staff to lock the thread at 6am EST on 5/2. This would make it 12am in Hawaii. I figure that is the most fair. I will announce the winners 5/2. I will post the Winners in a thread as soon as I am able to, hopefully around 1pm EST. After that you can reveal who you are as I will only be revealing the winners.

Thanks to all who participated, it was fun running this contest, and I hope you all wannabe TimeLords had fun building your sonics.
