2005 'War of the Worlds' Tripod from Pegasus - WIP

I painted the miniature and the full size wrecked tripod. It was cool, pretty big. We
Made all of that mossy red weed and variants there of. a ton of stuff that was cut. Dakota's embryonic pod ect.

Thanks for the comments, it's appreciated.

Alan - is the garage kit the Randy Cooper one? Looks fantastic, and impressively damn big too. Get cracking mate and be sure to show how it's going.

Skullbeast - I'm guessing you'll be tackling the paint-job of your model with a similar (if slightly minituarised) approach? Did you manage to get any photo's of the work for the studio (assuming you'd be allowed to show them)?
Sterling work anyway - just would have preferred the movie made more of such an interesting and well-executed interpretation of Well's invaders - they don't get nearly enough love as they deserve!

I should have posted the following as part of the build the other day (I did in off-topic): basically whilst quietly working on my PC I heard a very loud bang and after a short while of playing detective found that one of the Duracell batteries I bought for the tripod had exploded (it was out of the tripod and on my desk when it happened, luckily):

This was one I had in the Tripod but swapped it out for a new one a few days before to see if there was any comparable show of drain in the lights. Bearing in mind the battery had only ever been used for a total of 5 minutes (10 minutes max?) and it had been lying on my desk not connected to anything for a few days and I'm really puzzled as to what could cause it.
I don't think it was under any huge strain in the tripod set-up.
I'm a little nervous about using a similar battery again now, I wonder what damage the exploding battery might have done if it was in the tripod when it decided to 'expand it's horizons'. Maybe I just got a bad one.

Yeah, my kit IS the Randy Cooper one. It's pretty big. And this thread will be a great asset in getting it done. Which it will be... any year now! ;)

Here is the miniature I worked ( with some others) on and painted ( by myself) later all Martian machine sets were based off this theme.

This whole build is sheer perfection. Your base is perfect but you MUST make this into a diorama. You could really go to town on this and buy in loads of 1/144 houses. Have it at one end of a suburban street with people falling over themselves to get away and stranded cars. It would be a godly model.

By the way - the cotton wool smoke thing -- I saw a japanese modeller tackle this really well, he added LEDs/low voltage bulbs to create the centre of the explosion and then applied the cotton wool after. The lighting effects were so realistic it looked like a film still. If I can find the model or something similar I'll post it here for you.

Such a nice build though, you are very talented indeed.

It actually has a pretty cool design... from the front. Was just never too fond of the pointy elongated rear of the head - would have preferred the monks hood look.

The base is pure genius and you've made up that model really awesome. Pretty damn sweet! :thumbsup

Thanks for the kind words Christrom - and those model explosions are the first time I've seen that effect achieved and it's not goofy - in fact, far from it. You seem to be good at finding modeling hacks what with this and the fake snow. At some point down the line I'd like to do a (Lynch) Dune Guild Navigator in his tank - a little gaseous melange would look great in there with it but the only way I can think of achieving it so far is immersing the whole model in clear resin with 'cloudy' areas' - if there's a better way you can think of or come across it would be good to know :)

I know what you mean Carsten about the pointy head, but it really grew on me - very aquatic. Might have been interesting to have a slightly different (but distinct) version for the tripod harvester. Thanks for the base compliment - it's pretty damn handy that minimal also means less work too :D

Skull Beast - I really appreciate you showing those pictures, many thanks and fantastic work. I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of raising the light levels beneath the hood as work this good deserves to be seen!

It seems I needn't have worried about seamlessly blending the under hood to the outer hood after all :facepalm

And am I right in seeing a very slight green hue to certain areas or would that be reflection? I'm also curious about the scale and hope the model is stored well - possibly for display at some point.

I'd love to see more photos and more of the history as well. It's an excellent painting guide if nothing else. Thanks.
