1989 ILM/Lucasfilm Exhibit Photos

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... In 1989 (I think) ILM/Lucasfilm had a large exhibit on display the Marin County Civic Center, the same place where George filmed his THX1138. If my sketchy memory serves, it was on display for a weekend, maybe a three-day holiday weekend. I don't recall the reason why they did it, but I got the idea that George wanted to share, give back and maybe inspire the locals. My impression (again) was that the models, costumes, matte paintings, and props were all screen-used examples from the ILM warehouse, but who knows.

All 45 of my photos from the exhibit attached.They were taken with a lousy, borrowed film camera that at the time I had no idea how to use as I had no camera of my own. As a result there are some reasonable photos as well as many horrific ones. I could have cleaned them up somewhat with photoshop etc. but that would have taken more time on top of scanning the individual photos, and so that's left to anyone to do for themselves. These are full-size scans of 4x6 prints.

I've only seen one other collection of photos from this event online, in a Facebook group, but I'd be surprised if there weren't others... Bonus content includes real humans from ye olde 1980s. And I can tell I was thinking about maybe trying to replicate a ROTJ speeder trooper at the time.

My hope is that even one of these helps someone figure something out, or serves as a useful reference. If you're a collector/accumulator of digital reference photos as I know many of us are, these are for you.

TY for those pics RandomMaker! Same here when I saw an exhibit of SW in 1977 in Brussels, Belgium. My camera was a Kodak Instamatic with a cube flash. Not the best for taking pictures
