Finally finished this commission build. Its taken a while , but its been very interesting. I have learned alot about the shuttle on the way. This kit itself is the Monogram full stack kit. Its not an easy build as theres lots of gaps , warps and general bad fit. With a bit of patience i managed to get it all together without much filler.
On the whole i enjoyed it and it will be one of the few commission builds that i will actually be sad to see go. By the way , excuse the white glue holding the glass on. It will dry clear.

Next on the Build list is the Revell 1/72 Shuttle sitting on the back of the 1/72 747!

I'm very jealous, I've wanted the 1/72 stack model for 5 years and just haven't found a good price on one. I have the shuttle without the stack, but nothing to me, looks better than the shuttle on the stack.

Dave :)

Very impressive build! How tall is the stack?

OK now I've got to know - where do you plan on getting a 1/72 747? I have a 1/100 kit and it is BIG! Would love to see a 1/72 version.

I already have one. Its a vac form made here in the UK. Yes its a bit on the large size!

Awesome!

Maybe shuttle retirement will inspire me to finally build mine.

How did you deal with the damn seam on the ET?

Well done! :thumbsup

Except for the "worm logo"... never cared for that thing. Glad they resurrected the blue meatball. :lol

If you live in Ohio, you might be getting a chance to see one of the Shuttles in person after their retirement next year.

I just read recently that the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patt put in a bid for one of the Shuttles.

I suspect the surviving flight vehicles (Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavour) will be dispersed between Florida (Kennedy Space Center), the Midwest (most likely Wright-Patt for its crowds and hangar space), and the West (California, where all the vehicles were built at the now-defunct Rockwell International). I'm guessing some place in LA or possibly Edwards Air Force Base (IF they have facilities to adequately preserve) will get the third Shuttle. Makes sense since Edwards was always the primary back-up landing field and the site of the original Shuttle test flights in the early 1980s.

I suspect the National Air and Space Museum won't be getting a flight vehicle unless it bails out Enterprise (the aerodynamic prototype) and trades for a flight shuttle...

now weather it ILM style

Yeah, just like the TOS Enterprise in the Smithsonian...:eek NOT

That's a beautiful stack there, if I could humbly add one suggestion- Hit the ET with a good coat of dullcoat. That foam is miserably flat in real life and shouldn't reflect a shine at all.

I've always loved the 1/72 scale for the shuttle!
