UPDATE!!!!
Still moving on this. Body in progress; No pics yet.

Here're some of the latest headshots for your review, though - Hair's still rough, obviously, and to my eyes, the bill of the cap's a little thick. What do you guys think?

I'm loving this!

Here's the Latest:

My comments to the sculptor:

1. It appears as though the bill of the cap is too short and too thick - I've attached a photo for reference. (M1)
2. I think that the hair should be a little longer. (Again, see attached - M2)
3. His right eyelid (on our left) appears maybe a little sharp on the nose side - could that be softened?
4. Finally, I think that the chin still appears to recede too much toward the neck. A profile shot would help me judge a little better. The neck is also too thin. (I think you mentioned before that this would be taken care of when the body is added. If so, it's obviously a moot point.)

Your thoughts, please....

(I'm getting excited!)

After years of wanting to, I've finally commissioned a sculptor to create a 1/4 scale figure of Tom Selleck as Magnum in this pose:

In these clothes:

I've found the "Jungle Bird" shirt, and am looking for someone to reproduce the pattern at 1/4 scale. The sculptor will be making Magnum's Puma tennis shoes, and team ring (Which will be sculpted on the hand) and I'm making the POW bracelet. I'm not sure yet what I'll do for the Rolex GMT or the Jeans, but I already have an accurate belt (Yay for me!).

Anyway, here are the very first in-progress sculpts - A couple of quick notes. The Baseball cap will be sculpted on - (Sculptor forgot about that), and it appears to me that the lower half of the face is too narrow. Also the neck, of course, but the sculptor tells me that right now it's basically a placeholder until the body is sculpted.

Any other feedback is appreciated!

Thanks!

Oh - I've also thrown up some reference: It's at www.russellwalks.com/Selleck/mag001.jpg, continuing to mag040.jpg

A 'lil bump. :)

Looking good!

I'd go with the VMO2 cap. :cool

Re: Premium Format Magnum P.I. Figure

Looks good so far. I think the mustache needs to be more of a triangle shape though. It looks to horizontal right now. But definately a good start.

Re: Premium Format Magnum P.I. Figure

Great project!

One thing that looks odd to me is that Magnums mustache always curves down on the edges starting at the middle. The sculpt has it looking to blocky. The top should look more like an arch.

Also, his mustache usually extends beyond the corner of his mouth. The face does look a bit gaunt like was mentioned.

Anyway, can't wait to see the final.

Re: Premium Format Magnum P.I. Figure

Excellent points, all!

This is still in progress, and I know the sculptor reads the board. SHould have some new pictures soon - Couple of quick things. He'll be wearing the Tigers cap, and will have a more intent, serious expression.

As soon as I get some updated pics, I'll post 'em!

Re: Premium Format Magnum P.I. Figure

Damn, wish I could sculpt. Never could pick it up. The likeness is close right now, but will likely get better. Look at it this way, if you mold it as is, you could use it for a 1/4 scale John Holmes figure......:unsure

Re: Premium Format Magnum P.I. Figure

Great start!!

I would suggest his hair be a bit more curly. Looks too feathered.

Re: Premium Format Magnum P.I. Figure NEW PICS!

Never noticed this before, but Tom looks like John Holmes a bit doesn't he?! More so in the sculpt... :confused

Perhaps it's the 70's porn stache?! It'll look cool when it's done either way.
