1/24 Raptor

I just got my 1/24 Raptor kit from Jesse. Very very nice kit with loooooooots of parts - almost like an injection model. But what really surprised me was the excellent instructions that came with the kit on CD, picturing each step - along with a lot of reference pics. I´m sure it takes a couple of hours or even days to document it this way, but I´m sure all builders will appreciate it and it will be extremely helpful when building this beauty.

Thanks
Tobias

That's what you call a happy customer. - You are obviously a class act when it comes to this work Jesse. Sure wish my cashflow would settle down so I can sample some more of your excellent models and customer service :D

Today I received my 1/24 Raptor from Mike and all I can say is WOW! This kit is much better than I ever expected. I feel very lucky that Mike ran it in the grey resin, it's easier to see what you are doing or 'need to do' and and less time using coats of primer before things are just right. I can't wait to dig in....winter is here and its Model building time! Thank you Jesse, Mike, Coby and all the other talanted folks who put time and effort into this awesome kit!

Out of the box its a #10 with just basic clean up ...without the usual hours of REPAIRS, hole filling, guessing what that funny looking part was or 'should have been'

Way to go guys! and THANK YOU!! :eek

I 100% agree on this kit! it's a very crisp (and bubble free) casting. I'm still in the clean up and flash removing stage right now.

I'm not sure that I'm in complete agreement with the instructions, tho.

I printed the sheets from the CD and it seems to run out around step 46 or so.

For instance, I don't see anything dealing with the pilot figures or decal placement (beyond figuring out things from the screen caps. ) I mean the decals are numbered on the sheet, but there is no instruction as to what number goes where.

I'm all (as Harry Mudd once said) for the pursuit of knowledge, but maybe I just didn't get all of the instructions, I should have

Still, An A-1 kit

The pilot figures were added much later so they wouldn't be on the disc.

How is your clear canopy? last night I casted a male part of the 'bubble' section so I can vac my own. Mine has many 'little' dimples and a strange hazy spots, I washed and polished the part very well, it got a little better but not to my standards. I'm glad that the rest of the canopy glass are straight parts...thats easy to replace.

Decal placement for the interior would be helpful.

Still...not even close to the usual resin kit nightmares! :eek

UPDATE: Going over the Raptor more today and doing some clean up...man I love this kit! (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Dittos, this kit is awesome and I could not be any happier with the service I got from Mike!
I would like to learn more about the lighting in the kit that Jesse linked to, but I am too cheap to buy a $30 magazine to find out...:unsure

Hey Guys, just to address a couple of the things with the instructions etc...

I have just been copying the instructions that Jesse gave me onto the CD, we have both been so busy that i have not had the time to really sit down and see what needs to be addressed in the instructions, hopefully soon, in the meantime if you really get stuck email me or Jesse.

As for the canopy glass, the way the vac master is set up i need to get it pretty hot to get around the bubble and the rest of the buck, hence some of the dimples, i think that with a little sanding and a few coats of future it should come out pretty nice. If need be i may be able to do what FLUKE did and offer just the bubble, that may make it so that i do not need to get the plastic as hot for the vac forming, the rest could be cut out of clear because the parts are flat.
thanks
mike

Fluke,
Mail sent

given the geometry of the canopy, pehaps putting the windows in in smaller sections would be easier.

SWEET! :thumbsup Did you have to add those small round can lights above Helo's station? I'm not seeing them in my kit 'yet'.

The "bar" of lights was a resin part (not clear)... it was included. Part #24

Thanks. So many parts! When some cringe...I go YIPPIE!

I have asked if we could have a 'sticky' for building the 1/24 Raptor.

If my bubble vac thing works out I will gladly make two for anyone who wants one.

the tubing/wiring around the "sensor thingy" at the front of the raptor.. are those pieces included or are they meant to be scratchbuilt out of brass? Cuz I'm not seeing them in the baggies.

Scratched on mine... same with the wires inside. I was going to add the crash netting too, but the guy who wanted it said "naaah".

I thought I had a decal placement image on the disk. or at least a set of instructions for them. I didn't ever get this concern with the first run, so perhaps I simply shorted Mike some documentation...Ill look. If I didn't, have one, my apologies. I likely don't have time to redo one if I didn't do one. (sorry) but I think it should be fairly easy to figure out with a little time. (sorry again)

Regarding part 24...this and several other parts were not done in clear by me for one of 2 reasons...either I didn't realize it would need to be lit, or I assumed I would light those pieces with fiber. The part 24 in question is the later. I guess, in reality I could have cast the whole darn thing in clear...but the stuff is a pain...seemed to be most worthwhile on the large banks of screens and lights that would be much harder to light with fiber.

If you can find some decal placement info... cool!...if not... no problem Jesse!

I can get very small round surface mount led's for those part #24 lights.

Question: On the disc...There seems to be some changes of the Raptor interior from the earlier numbered images to the imgages in the higher numbers...mostly the flat/counter surface where the keyboards are and the like....Has anyone else noticed this? I'm glad the final part was made the way it was...by the way those off camera/studio images simply ROCK! I want more of those! :eek
