1/1000 NX-0002

Sanded the saucer edge and gave it a shot of filler primer. Glued on the intercoolers and inboard pylon vents.

The vents are exactly the same width and height as the pilot/series versions, but, being representative of older, clunkier technology, they stand proud of the pylon surface, and are louvered down their length (and are thus stylistically consistent with the nacelle trench inserts’ vents), rather than having the brick-mesh vent pattern seen in TOS. And of course, each is one long vent, rather than the four small vents seen on each pylon from TOS.

Impressive work. I'm looking for ward to seeing how you manage the hull plating. Such a cool build.

Thanks! I’ve done two previous builds with painted hull plating, so at least I know what I’m in for.

Meanwhile, I attached the detail pieces to the rear of each pylon. I need to give the saucer edge another pass or two of putty and sanding before I glue it to the dorsal. All parts will then be assembled, except for the hangar beacon dome, which goes on after painting.

After the saucer is attached, then comes whatever final puttying and sanding is needed to prep for non-filler-primer priming. After that comes a black coat, then the metallics.

They’re Aztec Dummy’s Generic Plating Masks. Just random shapes.

Thank you, those are awesome. I'd seen them before, but kind of forgotten about them, I'm looking forward to seeing them applied. I believe you said you'd used these successfully in the past, correct? Do you have a build thread where you used them previously? If not, can you share a photo?

Now that they've arrived, when do you think you'll start applying them? I'm interested in seeing your process.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just impressed and looking forward to seeing the end product.

No problem at all. How do we learn without asking questions?

I still need to finish assembly, then take care of any last seams/imperfections before priming. Then a black coat, then a metallic basecoat, and then I can add the paint masks.

I used the same paint masks previously on my conjectural model of the Intrepid. I based the model mostly on the TOS Remastered CG version, which has random hull plating, rather than the Aztec pattern of the CG Defiant as seen in ENTERPRISE’s “In a Mirror, Darkly”.

Two-tone metallic pattern, then lightly misted with the usual gray-green hull color I use on my TOS-era models.

What are those other fonts?

I wanted to try something different for that build, so I made some custom decals based on the Vulcan written language. I figured that since the Intrepid had a Vulcan crew, it might have been a special ship, or on some special mission, and therefore might have had bilingual hull markings.

In retrospect, I think it would better if I'd made the Vulcan markings a different color.

Haven’t had time to work on this, lately, but I did pick up some more metallic paints in preparation.

Really, I just need to putty/sand a few imperfections, smooth everything out for primer, then get to work with painting.

Primer coat applied. Once it dries, I’ll give things a once-over. If all is well, then I’ll proceed with the black coat.
