1/1000 Enterprise Refit

This is Polar Lights’ 1/1000 scale U.S.S. Enterprise (Refit) model kit, right on schedule for the 40th anniversary of STAR TREK- THE MOTION PICTURE. The model was extensively accurized and superdetailed, and includes photoetched brass parts from Paragrafix, accurate resin replacement parts (Bridge/B-C decks, photon torpedo tubes, and impulse engines) from Tetryon Parts, and a mashup of the stock decals, PNT Models decals, and Acreation decals. The hull’s Aztec pattern decals suffer from an infamous and inconsistent problem with Acreation’s decals—the color quality is poor, and so they appear more purplish overall than multi-colored. However, since I toned down the entirety of the Aztec paneling with a coating of flat white enamel (which is also the kit’s base color), this proved not to be a problem. The result is a subtle panel pattern which better fits the scale. The display base was accented with a 3D printed, TMP-style Starfleet insignia from Shapeways.

That looks amazing! Can I ask how big it is? I have a 1/350 TOS to build but thinking these smaller 1/1000 kits could be a good primer for building that later on.

This being a 1/1000 scale kit, with the theoretical starship being 1000 feet, the model comes out to exactly 12” long. The 1/1000 TOS kit—which I’ve built a BUNCH of—is 11” long.

B-e-a-uuuuuuuu-tiful!! I have the same kit but am somewhat stuck on to just make it like you have or to go with the whole works and get it to light up.

I considered lighting it, but I think it would be too much work for such a small kit. Better to save lighting for the 1/350 or even 1/537 versions.

It can be (and has been) done at this scale, but I don’t think it’s really worth the trouble.

What colors did you use

Base color of white, with some blue-grays for the detailing, and sky-blue with a white center for the deflector dish and black drybrushed with aluminum for the outer nacelle grilles, with a few other bits of detail painting. Everything else is decals.
