1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Look for a electronic surplus store in your town.

They can be an aluminum junk paradise. I'm fortunate to have one local.

Hi S,

We only have 1 electronic surplus store in town and they dont carry any toggle switches at all. I was really surprised... Maybe you can take a peak at your local and see what they have?

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That's moviemaking for you.

Looking at that piece behind/above Luke's head in the cockpit, I was reminded of a sound mixing board. Check this eBay listing I found by searching "fader slide switch":

5x12 Digital FADER Mixer Effects Slide Switch Cap,J201 | eBay

Not that you're looking to do the walls, but they might be helpful elsewhere.

Hey MFB,

I've looked ALL over the net hoping to find something similar to those rocker style knobs with NO LUCK at all. However, Canobi was gracious enough to offer up his talents to create all the rocker knobs for the instrument panel and then pass the molds on to us for future use - because we ARE doing the entire cockpit... one rocker switch at a time :)

Beautiful.

"What's that flashing?" ;)

Traditionally, Jedifyfe-ing applies to entire threads, right? Is it acceptable within a thread? :)

Your weathering looks awesome. As far as that panel behind Luke, I thought it looked a lot like a mixing board, so maybe they used a piece of an old one? I've just never seen one with sliders so close together. FWIW.

Hi G

That console is looking fantastic!

I have a small update for you :)

Glue has cured nicely now

After a light sanding and clean, I sprayed with the conformal coating. It didn't like it too much and it just came off so I primer'd it and sprayed it black with plasic paint instead

Just got to fill in the edge and inside a bit with Kleenclay as I found out silicone doesn't like the two part apoxy I used.

The casting however, might not be till after next week as the mould I made for my other project was a fail :)cry) and I need to treat my master to a makeover first before I get to moulding again, sorry about that :(

On the bright side, I'll have the rocker switch master ready by then too (it was a hastle trying to find a glue that worked on the plastic I was going to use, so I switched plastic and found I good one :thumbsup).

On that note, I've come up with a really simple solution if you want the switches to actually rock and light up. I'll do a sketch to see what you think.

Top part of instrument panel has been pin striped and waiting for more greeblies - they are not attached yet - just resting in place.

And now we move on to the lower instrument panel! :)

Hey C,

Sounds great! Please... no rush at all! We have nothing but time. The mold for the lens is looking great! I can't wait to see the first one popped.

Does this process allow you to create different color lenses as well? I have NO idea how the process works. Please detail the process with pics. :)

OH!!! I just realized... The rockers on this version will be static only - no movement, no lights, etc... Just a flat plain bottom - if you're ok with that? I wanted to chat with you offline about that - I'll send you an email :)

The lens looks awesome so far! Keep us posted on your progress!

Hey M,

The weathering was a lot of fun... I'm looking forward to the next set of back boxes for the second console. Same basic look and feel but a completely different shape. I'm hoping to create something that will compliment the overall design of the console. I've got a few ideas bouncing around the emptiness.

I thought the exact same thing... I thought for sure the panel had to be a mixing board of some kind - no luck. I couldn't even find any reference to the knobs used. I called and emailed vendor after vendor and nobody could help - just like the dome panel lights - they're a mystery.

But I've never seen those style knobs let alone the different shapes... Hope you're enjoying the weekend?! :)

Back to work...

Wow! I've hardly been to the RPF since it's adress restoration, and Ive missed a TOn of cool stuff, especially this!! I've been a fan of Steve's work since he started his thread on sceen accurate MF. I'm so envious of you guys building a 1/1 console. I never new there was another base to the thing...
