I hope I'm not a debbie downer, but the flame tube is not the exact one used for IG-88, cantina, etc. It's pretty darn close, but not exact. The multiple seams and holes at the bottom should only be one seam, with a larger hole beneath it.

Well you are! Nah... Just kidding! We all understand that the chances of us finding the "exact" parts the original designers used is difficult at best. We still have yet to identify 90% of the ship greeblies. For example, the Garrard Record Player Trim Plate I was able to find - I'm one model off but the part is almost identical to the one used in the cockpit. While it might not be "the" exact model, we are using an actual Garrard part. The fact that we have a Rolls Royce Flame Tube is pretty cool! And if we do find the originals... then I have an awesome piece of aviation history and an even better piece of artwork to showcase.

I certainly wouldn't categorize this as a "good enough" moment. If we're unable to secure the parts used, then we will most definitely HAVE to compromise during the build. As much as that pains me to admit.

Finally broke out the router!

This piece also has a large red tube coming from the bottom that travels around the back wall - gotta figure out a connection

Hi Gang,

Can anybody point me in the right direction to create "White" decals to place against black? I really want to add the text to the MK4 box using the Aurebesh font but I'm not sure what the process is. And I'm certainly NOT going to try to paint it.

The only way I've ever known to do it is to use an ALPS printer. They're no longer produced I don't believe, but I'm sure you could find one on ebay...getting the ink cartridges may be another matter entirely. That's if you want to print actual white letters on clear decal paper.

The other option would be to print onto white decal paper. The original document would need to have white letters on a black background. Then you'd effectively print the black onto a white decal, and voila, a black decal with white letters. Of course the problem with that is the black may not match the piece you're applying it to, and there may be some touchup required if the printed black doesn't cover entirely.

In terms of the printing at work we have thermal label printers which we use for booking jobs they use white labels and print black I have used them before to print black and white stickers.
When I'm in Monday I can check and see which printers they are.

The ALPS printers were great for doing that very job indeed. In addition to white you could get proper gold and silver from them too.

As TMBBQ say, they are quite old now. I looked for one on Ebay a few years ago now and drew a blank on it. You might have better luck in the US though. Ink Carts are redily available on the plus side.

It might be easer to use the laser cutter to create a stencil and paint them :unsure. I know some letters have holes in them, which creates some problems, but if they are large enough you can use a little bridge and then hand fill it?

Screen printing white using decal and a laser cut mask could be another option?

PPS There also a technique where you can print black and use a chemical to turn it white. Never tried myself.

I do know the model guys can print their own decals for buildings, railcars and such. I've seen both waterslide and dry transfer. If that's any help...
