1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Lucas was obsessed with it being cramped, it seems. Ultimately to the point of being upset with Kershner for making the ESB cockpit bigger.

The plans in ANH showed an 8' cockpit, which was built to specs at one point before filming. But that cockpit was shrunk down by overlapping panels, reducing the diameter of the cockpit seen on screen (which is the cause of the misaligned light strips)

Funny - I just did a post on my falcon site about that. I'm currently working on sidewall layouts for my model...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

This is not a criticism, but a comment. It looks smaller than I would have thought it would be. Perhaps 15% -20% smaller.

Very cool.

Thanks! I've removed about 10-12 inches from the bottom. So in essence... you are correct... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang

I got a late start this morning... But I was able to add filler to both panels and work on more rockers...

LOTS of filler

And a VID! Enjoy!

I looked back at the thread 3 times and never could find the video. I was even searching for the word "Video" on the page. Nothing! Then tonight I came back and located the partial word "Vid". Found it! Lookin good!

Hi Gang,

Quick morning update:

Sanded down the side panels

That's a lot of wood grain to fill

Results - still more filler and sanding to go.

A heck of a lot better than it was!

I need to do the same to the other larger side panels as well. More to Come!

Off to work!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Looks like all the turrets have IG88 heads as base caps. Interesting.

You are correct! If I remember, the IG88 head is part of a Rolls Royce aircraft engine. The designers also used in them in the original cantina scene as part of the "still". They were also used in the quads and can be seen in the Bespin incinerator scene.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Nice to see it all lining up!

I never thought the day would get here!

Beautiful. Congrats on finally beating these pieces into submission.

Thanks! There was a point in time when I thought I was beat... I was beyond frustrated! :)

It's all looking good, every thing is coming together nicely.

Thank you, Sir!

Thanks for that vid. Next best thing to seeing it in person.

Thanks! I'm going to start posting more so you guys can get a better feel for how big this sucker actually is! :)

Did you end up 8' at widest point on the rear wall, or did you go for the reworked Lucas version? 7' 3" was it?

All the dimensions are the same minus the floor. It was decided to remove the 10-12 inches for space reasons. It would have been too big. The two back chairs are actually lower than the pilots chairs. You don't realize how high off the ground the console is until someone is standing directly behind the console - Luke and Ben.

Great work on them side panels G, makes all the difference to that enclosed space feel.

Thanks! And you are correct! It really finishes the cockpit. Those panels require so much work to get smooth - but it'll be worth it once I get the pinstriping done! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

Quick update! BlackBeardCrazy and Steve Starkiller both played a critical role in recreating this AWESOME MF cockpit / console greeblie in SketchUp that we're going to have 3D printed! There are 3 separate pieces and will bolt together like the original! I'm really excited!

ALL my thanks to both of you guys!!!!

Also... this is tough to see... I've finished painting all the rockers and I'm thinking about giving them a light sanding to show natural weathering. The high gloss is nice but just doesn't look right. Opinions?

For some reason, these switches always reminded me of the voice toggles on a 70's church organ (although I've never found an adequate reference though) - but they were always glossy plastic. I like the gloss...

I thought the same thing. I was reminded on of a church organ or electric piano... I have searched the net far and wide - I even found the last page of the net... I could not find ANY rockers that matched. :)

Yep, it's a part from a Rolls Royce Derwent engine. They also show up outside the cantina near the door, also on that big scrap engine next to the cantina, and outside the Lars Homestead Igloo. And also the turbo lasers on the deathstar. I think there might even be one or two more places they show up. The art department seems to have found an inexhaustible sypply of them...

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That might be a little small... But i would like to get a hold of a box of them. Greeblies are greeblies!
