Oil paint tinted silicone is the way to go as XtcofPain said. Tint the caulk to the color you want and you can thin it with Naptha. You can even get it thin enough to spray through an airbrush! Just be sure to clean it all out properly between colors. Once it's painted to your liking do a clear sealing coat of just the thinned caulking.
There haven't been very many new developments on the raptor. I'm in the process of moving out of my parents house. So I won't be able to work on it again until I'm moved in at the new place.
But the next step will be to finish the mouth interior by adding all the teeth and a tongue. Then I'll glue down the skin and paint it.
Hey guys! It's been a while since I've been able to find time to work on the raptor. I've been working on some of my other projects and getting them finished. But I've finally made my way back to the raptor puppet and I have some made some visible progress. She now has teeth!!!
Ok well she has bottom teeth. I've got some issues with the teeth being able to clear the foam inside the upper jaw. So I need to do some sanding so the mouth can close all the way. Once that's done I can do the upper teeth and finish out the mouth area with a coat of resin.
This is really beautiful, really realistic. I can't wait to see the final product, and if I can afford it you'll bet I'll be in line to buy one of these things. You're quite skilled with the materials you're working with despite all the problems your having, perserverence seems to be a common theme to prop and replica building (I'm kind of new to it).
I'm feeling kind of depressed. A week or so back I layed down the resin over the foam inside the head and let it cure for several days. I screwed the jaw back on and found that when the mouth is closed all the way there is some slight resistance when you try to open it back up. I dremeled the crap out of all the edges where it could be rubbing and it's still getting caught on something.
Oh and I put the skin on for the first time with the teeth. The thing weighs a ton! I don't have a scale but if I had to guess I'd say it's probably 5 lbs no skin and maybe 8-9 lbs with skin.
It's way heavier than it needs to be and puppeteering it is really difficult. I wish I could have baked a skin out of foam latex instead. :cry
