1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) R.I.P STUART FREEBORN

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Puppet assembly stage!!!!

Phil, it really does make me sad that things have gone the way that they did with us and I don't want to do anything to perpetuate any more nastiness.
But a lot of what you said about me and the work that I've done in the last several posts were just not fair and untrue. There's no point in me going over each individual thing so I'll just address the following. I'm only posting in your thread because you specifically asked for it, if you want me to remove this post, I will.

I dare anyone to compare MY V2 with MY V3b along side the screen shots and they will clearly see which is closest by far...

MY old Yoda looks toylike this new one looks like an actual screen used prop....

I honestly don't see how you can characterize this as toylike. :(

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Puppet assembly stage!!!!

:behave:behave:behave
I'd rather listen to the views of Nick Maley, who actually worked on the original puppets than yours... Nick after all was responsible for the detailing of Yoda... and according to what hes been saying about my V3b version its pretty much spot on. He helped with some advise along the way aswell so You can keep on running this version down all you like but Nick is the man whom I listen to most on Yoda so your digs at my latest version will hence forth fall on deaf ears - the Old Yoda is past tense - get used to it!:facepalm

I dare anyone to compare MY V2 with MY V3b along side the screen shots and they will clearly see which is closest by far... Again you're digging yourself deeper into a hole with lots of ridiculous arguments and picking fights saying ur not taking sides.... have you ever once rained in on one of your friends threads and picked up on his ignorance of the facts.... No!!

MY old Yoda looks toylike this new one looks like an actual screen used prop.... I hate to say this but i think you've become a puppet yourself of your friend... I bet hes ringing you telling you what to say etc etc :lol
I was not making digs on you or your work. You put your stuff here to be talked about. If I see something that is not quite right, I'll say it if you put it out there. I'm sure you would like me to shower praise on you where it is or isn't needed. They were critiques and not slams. I cannot state that enough. Would you rather, as an eFriend, that I LIE and shower you with praise about how awesome something looks if I don't believe it does?

Now, onto your subtle jabs at ME now, I take those with a huge grain of salt because I guess I have dared to say your old one was better. It's okay man, I take no offense to it. It's rather childish of you, but hey...whatever. If I would have your phone number, we would have this discussion over the phone as well. I do not, so I have to have it here. I have rained on Gino when our opinions differ, time and again, but again, it is a conversation between he and I. I honestly do not care if you believe it or not. I have come to YOUR defense as well in our discussions. So...again, think what you will.

Again, I bear you no ill will and my critiques were honest and NOT a slam. You need to stop being defensive as an artist and realize when someone is just being honest with you. I know for a FACT that I have thought some of my work was awesome and was humbled when others took a look and said this, that or the other needed tweaking. I stepped back and lo and behold, they were spot on correct. Hells bells, that stings, but you know what? It made me a better artist for it.

Shall we look back at how many of the people who are telling you that this is the be-all, end-all Yoda sculpt said the same things about the last ones you put up in this very thread? You did not think they were right and kept on tweaking, right?
I'll extend the same offer to you that I gave Gino. Any time you would like to actually exchange words, as opposed to typed text, just ask. I am always open to talking to fellow board members AND fellow artists. We learn from each other, and while I haven't a thing to teach you about sculpting, I DO have lessons on hubris I can gladly impart. Stop looking for fights when someone disagrees with you and offers a critique. Show me instead how my critiques are incorrect. I'll listen. It's what I do.

Have a good night. I'm done here. There is iron needing moving in the AM.

WOW...:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm:behave ok... I have to add my 2 cents on the subject... In my opinion, this is the end all beat all TRUTH of the matter... Ginos Maul and Emperor displays are Frickin Awesome, and I can only imagine how much time and effort was spent on his part researching and building these things, but honestly they would not exsist in the same glory if not for Phil's insanely amazing god given talent, i don't care what "directions" were given or by who... thats not to say that the costume, body, paint, ect. don't complement Phils work extremely well, but without the insanely accurate and detailed sculpts, you've got no real WOW factor...

I mean take Ginos exact maul build up and put sideshows pricey Maul bust on it...
SideshowGinoMaulHybrid.jpg

not nearly as impressive if you ask me... not if your going for realism... Phil is just the F'n Man! and his name should be well more then mentioned ANYTIME/EVERYTIME these pieces are shown, spoken of, or even thought about... I mean come on SOOOO many people can now make jaw dropping displays using Phil's busts... (just as impressive as Ginos)... This one looks pretty sweet... even with the crappy image quality
101_0236.jpg

but without Phils Brilliant Sculpt, Gino couldn't even have done it himself... I believe he even said that himself once in one of his threads...

Damn I should be a Lawyer or something!:cool

Let me give credit where credit is due. And I told Gino this. Gino did an amazing job creating the body, and I'm not talking about just the costume. Even without the head, the body language implied menace, and those of us who do 1:1 scale will fuss over every inch to get something right. You can't just get a regular cheap-o mannequin, slap costumed parts on there, and expect it to look like a living breathing person underneath. That's why so many displays look like awesome props arranged to the right parts of the body, but don't look like they really recreate the character nor capture its essence.

GINO, I PAID YOU A COMPLIMENT, GOT IT? :behave

The body still needs a head. This is where I love Phil's work. I own a Sideshow Maul, but Phil's work really looked alive. It looked like a human wearing facepaint. Instead of the open mouth bearing teeth, Phil's closed-mouth Maul implied a cold menace rather than Sideshow's Maul's open rage.

I'll just mention this:
If there is one thing I know for sure about what Gino has contributed to the Cyberman/Gino collaboration sculpts, its the neutral expression. He is always saying that busts look more realistic that way instead of snarls or goofy smiles.

I agree that without a head, most of Gino's lifesized displays would not be as awe-inspiring. But then again, a raw resin head isn't that awe-inspiring either..

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Puppet assembly stage!!!!

latest one is definitely my favorite Phil. Nice work all around. :)

I am not a star wars fan by no means at all, but I have to say that I like the first photo on top with the closed mouth expression better. To me it looks more lifelike. I am not one to say if the new sculpt is "MORE ACCURATE" but when I think of star wars yoda, the top picture is what I see in my head from the movies and looks fantastic. Nothing wrong with Phils latest attempt, it looks really nice, but everyone has a personal opinion.

Guys, dont waste your time with this. Phil Ive read all these posts and AGAIN you seem to start stuff with fellow members in DEFENSIVE modes and usually attack them when they critique, or offer critique with attacks, sarcasm and suggestions that if someone doesnt praise your work, they are in conspiracy with some other jealous board member trying to bring you down. SAME ATTITUDE, EVERY TIME. I use to really support you until you showed your true colors with ignorance. Every thread you start always ends up the same. And just so EVERYONE knows, I dont know Gino through a hole in the wall, but I will say his stuff looks very well done with alot of care and pride. That is easy to see.:thumbsup

I actually wonder how many board members you have turned against you just because of your continuous bad behavior. :thumbsdown

Guys arguing and going back and forth with Phil will get you know where except frustrated and angry.

I agree 100% with that. The day I got my Cyberman Maul head from Jme3, I sold my Sideshow bust. In side by side comparison, Phil's smoked the Sideshow one.

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Puppet assembly stage!!!!

And there lies the rub

yodacomps.jpg

The lightings may not be the same on all pics... camera angles may not be quite matched up but I challenge anyone to say MY V2 is nearer to this original screen cap than MY V3b then they are lying throw their teeth!

If Gino simply admitted my involvement in his creations by giving me the credit I deserved on his website all this toing and throwing would stop.

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Puppet assembly stage!!!!

See what I'm saying... No comparison on those Mauls...

But hey Phil... It be cool if you could somehow do a version of your new Yoda and cast it in some sort of translucent material and fix a light source inside to create a Spirit Yoda Effect... That could be pretty sweet. But anyway, I really hope to own one of your Yodas in the near future. YOU DA MAN!

Ha I asked to talk to him on the phone to sort out our problems and he said he wouldn't give me one second of his time.... Weird man! seems to enjoy wasting it typing pointless rebukes in my direction and always when I'm defending my work!

Re: 1:1 "Freeborn" YODA (THE ULTIMATE GOAL) Puppet assembly stage!!!!

This thread has taken a turn for the worse. Why has it degenerated into an argument over the Cyberman V2? It was the best out there in it's day, I owned one too, but let's move on.

This thread is about the new version, which everyone who knows what the OT Yoda looks like must agree is a superior representation of the screen used puppet. That's not a snipe, an aside or a jab at anyone, it's just a plain fact. Agendas aside, I'm sure most would agree with that.

It's daft to fight about this stuff. Let's see some more photos of this great new piece instead.
