1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... (Final Pics Pg3)!!

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Bloody hell...thats unreal. Your talent is amazing. You sir, have the ability to bring clay to life. Kudos for an amazing job well done...

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Sorry, didn't mean to rear up the recaster stories. I have two of your busts Howard and think they are awesome. I also got a luke bust from you that you gave a good deal on since you didn't know who made it. I agree with all the stuff about a silicon bust but can't afford those. I just hoped to have anoter HS star wars bust.

Nothing against you for having a hobby. It's just a shame that a few sour people have ruined it for the lot of us :(

That Luke you had was an old Chris King head... I never knew the sculptor of it. I'm sure Chris does.

That's one awesome looking ANH Luke. Can't wait to see it finished. :thumbsup

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Thanks howard, ill hqve to give him a shout. It is a very good head, good likeness. Just wish it was attched to some shoulders or at least to a partial chest piece like the han has.

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Very nice, Howard! Can't wait to see the finished piece! Mark is definitely coming through, even at this early stage! I gotta admit, I LOVE seeing progress pics... But I'm also the guy that reads everything before a movie comes out, including the "making of" stuff! I LOVE spoilers! LOL!

Howard, have you ever taken formal sculpting classes or training of any kind? Your skill in bringing life and accuracy to a piece seems to have increased exponentially in the past few years. Obviously, the Luke is looking great so far, too!

I agree with your movement toward silicone pieces, though resin is still nice for some projects. My last two replicas were poured or slush cast in different types of resins, and I was very happy with all the different products in terms of the individual looks they could achieve nicely. For example, sometimes you just can't beat a nice cold-cast bronze!!

Cheers,

Ryan

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Just a quick question: How will you handle the hair since the bust is silicone?

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Wow, you guy's rock. Howard.... Phil .. You're work always amazes me. I wish I had half the sculpting skills you guy's have. Anyone up for a NSD davros commision?

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Yet another impressive sculpt, Howard.
I look forward to further images as you progress to completion.

Thanks for the kind words Ryan! I never had formal training, but I'm always trying new techniques and different clays, etc... my next move this summer is to start using WED clay. I've heard you can really move with that stuff and have a much more 'organic' feel with your sculptures.

In this case, I was hired to make a 'Silicone' head of Luke Skywalker for the client. I'm not against making resin busts... if that's what the client wants ;)

Just a quick question: How will you handle the hair since the bust is silicone?

Hand punched human hair and styled by someone who works on hair ;) I've been meaning to go to barber school, I;'m sure it could save me a ton in the long run...

First of all I'm a huge fan of your work, so I just wanted to ask, If you are punching hair, why are you sculpting the hair too?
Cheers awesome job!

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

I just had to chip in again...not with huge adulation and plaudits.....but simply to say that Mark Hamill has one of the most difficult faces to draw/paint/sculpt, i've ever known.......

.....you've just captued the essential Hamill expression and look, (luke?)..

Incredible....just fantastic!

Re: 1:1 ANH Luke Skywalker Silicone Portrait... WIP

Finally got the silicone part done!! I'm pretty happy with the outcome on this one... especially since I'm such a Star Wars geek!

The client originally hired me to work on the silicone 'portrait' as the final goal will be a full statue. Hence the wooden working base is not a final bust base. I'm also making some silicone hands for this guy next... and then onto some more silicone Star Wars characters!
