007 DB 5 Gear knob with ejector seat button....Can you make one?

Probably the most famous button in the movie world and just happens to be attatched to probably the most drop dead sexy auto in any world. Its definately a prop id love to have and im sure many other Bond fans or just DB 5 fans would love as well.

I could always jerry rig something similar on an old same style knob but to do it justice it needs the work of a professional with the right equipment etc. Ive searched around and didnt find anything in terms of replicas so if any Bond fans here know of something please chime in. I want to do a full replica of the whole gearstick with similar style leather boot as a display piece but as an overall project its probably better just to think of the button and knob first. All comments welcome as its a good project for the right person.

I dont think the top was actually sprung :confused I thought it was just hinged & flipped up with his thumb??
If you wanted to make this on a budget you could use a Mk1 Austin Mini gear knob as its almost the same. The curve on the top is a little rounder on the Mini knob & you'd need to re-scribe the shift pattern to match the DB5 pattern. The Mini knob even has a line round it you could use as a cutting guide. You'd just need to machine the inside a bit to house the switch & find a knurled nut for the bottom.

Its a very small Gear knob! not alot of room for a hinge & spring set up like you'd find in a Zippo for example, though I suspect there may be other lighters with a flip up lid & the spring built into the hinge?
As for the red button, maybe you could use the guts out of a Graflex button?? theres only a little snap ring that holds it all in.

While the eBay listing is cool, it doesn't seem very accurate. For that price I think you could make a better one with a little effort and patience.

The ebay one is of very poor quality but my point was that its MY shifter knob idea and this guy is exploiting it. Ive been in the process of getting one made for a while now.
It seems that when you recast an idea, its totally cool, recast a small blob of resin and the dogs of war are unleashed.

Looks like a cool prop and should be quite easy to build. It would certainly be easy to turn out something better than the ebay listing. Although it looks like a couple of variations of the knob, there are different tops by the looks of it and different interiors to the cars. Was this from several different films maybe?
