Episode 3, they capture the Zhat Vash agent and try to interrogate him. Laris, Picard's lady Romulan friend (who is smooth headed), refers to him as a "stubborn northerner" while gesturing at his ridged forehead. I was quite impressed, one of the smoothest continuity fixes I've ever seen. It also neatly explains why we didn't see any Smooth Romulans durning unification, yet Spock was not out of place.
