Scratch Build A Weapon Contest

just to clarify, this needs to be just about 100% scratch built right. We can't take an existing toy, like a nerf gun for example, and build upon that. Just good ol fashion old school fabricating.

I agree 100% scratch just saying and didnt rules say no posting what you are building?

Nobody has posted what they are building yet Mockle, just questions. Squirl , no Nerf Gun Mods are allowed.

I see what you mean Orange Blend, and I think it would be more right with something 100% scratchbuilt because I can see someone buying a $40 Nerf and some paint and entering this so I'll add to the rules no nerf gun mods sorry for the quick change.

Just messed up on a couple rules here and there. This is also the first contest I have run butg now I think that everything has been taken care of regarding the rules and no more modifications to the rules of the contest will be done.

The only thing keeping me from entering is the money limit. I just can't afford it and with a limit on home found parts usage you pretty much have to spend money.

I'll bet that most of the best weapons that come out of this contest don't cost anywhere near the $50 limit! If you have any woodworking skills one sheet of MDF, some glue and paint and you're set. Total cost $20.

With what people were able to build in the Build Your Own Lightsaber contest for $20, and I'm almost doubling that amount we should definatly see some good stuff. I'm still waiting for a Mod to sticky this.

I guess my point was i don't want to spend anything. I have enough stuff around here and the recycle dropoff (for us old guys, "the dump") to build a weapon. I'm not expecting a rule change for me, i was just saying a consequence of the limit is a mandate to spend. I wouldn't have put a limit on money spent as long as there is no CNC, mill, lathe work. I can't see where you could spend that much in parts, and who wants to spend $500 in parts to win some $100 prize. I do think you should clarify the rule and add no guns at all for bases. Toy or real. Just leaving it as Nerf leaves it to interpretation. Just my 2 cents,

I can appreciate that perspective, i know I've got a lot of scrap runoff sitting around as well. chances are I could build a pistol without having to spend a dime in new materials.

Problem is, the further you dig into the rules, the more complicated things become. Is sandpaper included in the price? Dremel bits? New respirator cans? BEER?!!

The mind reels.

Thanks for the clarification, just wanting to put it out there. One more thing, is finishing materials included or not. Things like paint, sealer, stain, etc.

Actually i have enough scrap and materials i just bought but don't have receipts for to do an entry including parts (just the ammo holder) from a nerf lol.

Guys think of this like the $20 Lightsaber contest this one is pretty much the same way as that was run. As for finishing materials that cannot be done with pre-existing materials that has to be included in the reciepts. I mean if I wanted to I could build a huge gun out of MDF, some PVC, some Foam Board and astonish everyone. Heck it would look like the superweapon that Iron Man uses in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and I can keep it under $50 but I'm not going to be in this contest that just gives you a example of what I mean.

I hope that's not your entry for the contest you're supposed to send your photos and reciepts to me. If it is your entry I would suggest removing the photos and sending them to my e-mail on the OP.

I've got a couple things I could enter. But so far all of them are made from pure scrap material that I've had laying around for years from other previous projects. Paint, tape, dowel rods, pinewood, etc. there's no way I could supply a receipt for most of what I've made.

When your father is a general contractor you'd be surprised how many of your supplies can be found in the junk bins.
