MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy- One Year Later Pic End of Page 12

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- (UPDATED 2-20)

Yeah, I need bigger boots since my feet are weird anyways, my ankles are a bit big.
My boots have a 3 inch instep as well, so I'm going to be a good Ironman. :p

Only difficulty I think I'm going to have is scaling it all. But yes, I like your boots :p

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- (UPDATED 2-20)

great progress!
Make sure to put up lots of WIP pics of the chest! :love

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATED 2-22)

holy s*** ! this does really look good you have to make a tutorial on this.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATED 2-22)

It looks amazing, but the helmet looks awful. No offense cuz the helmet is the hardest to get right, I've made 7 iron man helmets from pepakura and I still haven't gotten it right.

I'm sorry for the harsh criticism.

his helmet is, by no means, awful. your comment, on the other hand, is leaning more towards that. if youve got constructive criticism, then share it. but dont come out of the blue in to someones thread to tell them a piece of their work is awful. all intentions aside, it was a rude remark.

now, McCL34N, this build is fantastic. i love your attention to detail, and taking each piece and breaking it down. instead of just trying to box it all out and be done. i just browsed thru your pics first and THEN started reading. i had no idea it was made from cardboard until then. keep up the good work!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATED 2-26)

Suit looks amazing thus far and the helmet is NOT awful by any means. I have seen many that are pretty wide at the top and lok a bit like Hector Hammond, or The Leader
but this one is pretty even, not perfect, but no ones will be "perfect"

Great work.

i agree!
a quick video on how you draw up your templates and put your pieces together would be nice.
lol i know a few ways of doing it but it would be nice to see another technique!:lol

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATED 2-26)

Joshalots, get off your high horse!
This helmet is really good, so get off the crack :p

Keep up the sweet work MCL34N!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy (UPDATED 2-26)

Some updated pics of the armor, along with a sort of How-to for the armor-

I begin with the inner structure of the piece, the way I want it to sit on my body.

Then, with tin foil I sort of "sketch" the shape of the armor. The advantage of tin foil is it can be shaped any way you want, then cut into the geometric pieces you need

Then for more complex curves I define a few of the surfaces I want,

189694_674935407059_18812244_37606403_4815158_n.jpg

Then fill the gaps with more tin foil

184835_674935287299_18812244_37606393_4189664_n.jpg

And transfer the shape of the tin foil to card board.

188801_674935322229_18812244_37606396_7063260_n.jpg

the shape of the armor piece-

189288_674935367139_18812244_37606399_7550_n.jpg

I add strips of thicker cardboard around the edges to give it depth

189096_674935417039_18812244_37606404_3998153_n.jpg

Cover in duct tape,

188511_674935297279_18812244_37606394_6218759_n.jpg

and voila!

At this point the armor is all taped together with masking tape, I'm going to attach it after I've finished adding detail.
