Harrmy's Star Wars Despecialized 2.5

Anybody hear about the Team Negative One's version? It supposed to be like the theater experience.

It also looks like Harmy will use this new print to fix his version.

“I can further restore those shots from the Silver Screen Edition, which were altered in any way in the Special Edition and then use them to replace the altered shots in the official release,” Harmy says, “so that the next version of Despecialized can be 100% HD and 100% the original version as well.”

"Part of the appeal of the Despecialized Edition is that it uses the official Blu-ray release as its base, which, while problematic in many respects—including its overly darkened image and strange colour tinting—is also the highest quality source available. The Blu-ray is unquestionably sharper and more detailed than Team Negative1’s 35mm print, despite its colour timing issues and altered scenes. "

It was pretty easy to find on the interwebs.

Remind me if I forget. I have to jump through some hoops to download torrents now, my isp knows how to block stuff. I have to pull out my ancient laptop and try to thwart them.
I don't download much. I used to only do Top Gear from the BBC, (it used to take weeks to get to the states) and the Harmy stuff. Oh, and the Mondo version of the Good Bad and Ugly. That's it.

Any word on this? It's been almost two months now...

So I just found out my local small town theater is running this in December. Might have to check it out.

I haven't seen Harmy's V2.5 on the big screen, so maybe it looks good at that size. But on my 60" TV, the colors look way over-saturated, and the details are over-sharp to my eye. My go-to is the Bonus Disc theatrical cut DVD--in spite of its non-anamorphic format. Hopefully Disney will release an anamorphic theatrical cut on DVD some day. Anyone know if this is in the works?

I have the same problem with Harmy's version, it's very contrasty and the skin tones are too yellow at times. The Team Negative version is my go to right now.

Agreed. The close-ups are sometimes distracting to look at. The close-ups of Obi Wan and Luke in the Death Star control room (when Obi Wan says, "Your destiny lies on a different path than mine...", they both look like they have jaundice!

Hey robn1, what is "The Team Negative" version? Never heard of it.

Not in the works, already finished. Reliance Media has done a 4K restoration. Apparently finished in 2014, you can see some of the work here:

All I can say is I want to the see it done "right". And the one that looks best so far is Mike Verta's work.

I suggest looking at these in HD, of course.

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=256230&highlight=Team+Negative Scanned from a 35mm print, not perfect but not bad either.

Thank you. So, that thread says Team Negative disbanded. The presumption appeared to be that the work would continue under the radar. Has it? Did they finish restoring SW77?

Agreed--mverta's work looks the best thus far. Although, I'd need to see more clips...particularly human faces...to crown his effort as champion of the restoration projects. Anyone know how far along he is on SW77?

You could check out the rest of his vids on vimeo ;)

HOLY CRAP!!!!

Okay, critique time: Opening crawl too orange. It was YELLOW when I saw it in 1977.

Opening shots: Color is overall a bit heavy on the red side.
Red needs pushed down a tad, green needs pushed up a bit.

C-3PO and R2 in the corridor (5:35 - 6:12) looks PERFECT. More of this, please.

Leia confronts Vader: (8:10) Too red. Needs more green.

3PO and R2 on Tatooine: Color really funky. Seems to be phasing from too red, to too blue, to too green, repeat. Like someone's turning a color wheel in front of the lens. Odd.

Jawas at 13:56: Color is PERFECT.

I doubt I'll be able to stay awake to watch all of this tonight - suffice to say, this looks 1,000 times better than the reissued stuff, even if I have a few small issues with the color here and there.
If it's still up, I'll finish watching tomorrow. Probably be easier to point out where the color is correct, rather than where it's wrong, so maybe I'll do that.
Unless I feel the color is really, really wrong. Though I doubt the guys behind this would care - they've already got so much time in this, and it really does look good. But I probably saw this movie a hundred times before I was even a teenager, so it's burned into my brain, and that's what I want. I want what's burned in my brain.

One last one before I retire: 18:00: Jawas sell droids to Owen. Too red. Needs more green.
