Using some of the last info coming out of Guy's thread that Julien
had posted, I decided I want to make one of these. I am
not setting out to make a accurate "filming mini" in regards
to donor parts, I don't have the money and if I did I wouldn't
spend on it.:lol
I decided to start with the landing skirt first because
of the updated info with it. I will reach those measurements
that Julien spoke about for the skirt. If it has changed I am
going to France I know of a nice X-wing with a yellow canopy
and a SSD I could hold hostage if they have changed!:love
This is going to be a major challenge and a major pain in the ass,
I know that already going into it!:angry But I figure if I can get
the skirts done I can move off of that small miracle and keep
going.
I am using the FM kit to help out, I am not much into
computers as far as helping me figure things out. So I
kind of did the old way? I used some coordinate geometry
to figure this out, as far as the bottom profiles for the skirts.
I remember drawing a airplane out in art class like that as a
child so I thought "can it be any different for a space ship?":lol
So I traced around the FM kit as you can see in the pic
(rear skirt) and broke that down into about 31 stations?
Then I did the same on the larger version the length is under
335mm so i will have some room when i form it. Then it's just
a matter of using the digital calipers measuring each station
off the small one and scaling it up......wich I think was around 2.30?
Here it is in paper.....
The front was made the same way, I traced around the
templates and transferred the shapes over to styrene,
It's pretty thick stuff just a hair under 4mm.
Then it was cut as close as possible and save the rest
for the dremel....
And here they are in plastic now it's time to figure out
the keels' for each skirt.
