I don't know if these will help ... behind the scenes and some with different lighting ... and then after colour correcting ... the final image as we remember the falscon as seen on screen.

Loving these HD behind the scenes photos. They're not really good for reference use however.

A lot of the images out there are brightened or taken with a flash, but these show the Falcon with the right amount of 'darkness' of the base coat, so should be a good indicator of the other shades for the panneling

Beautiful work, J! These are definitely useful for reference use. Thanks!

So ... I just got word that my Finemolds Falcon is on its way from Germany ... meanwhile a couple of questions ... what kind of glue is best to use for this kit and do you always prep a modelkit by washing all the parts in luke warm soapy water? Does this kit com with Han/Chewbacca figures? And would you recommend using the decals and if so what is required to get the best result?

Styrene cement. Someting like Tamiya glue or Testors

Unlike resin you do not have to soak and wash the parts to remove release agents

Some people will swear by it, but I have never had any problems with commercial polystyrene kits and find it a waste of time

Fine Molds decals are great quality/ To help them set and fit uneven surfaces using Miro Sol followed by Micro Set can help give that painted on look.
Although for some of e large flat panel ones that d not cross details, you can get away without them
Just be very careful applying those until you have the decal in place as it softens it and touching it /moving it after can damage it

You want a gloss coat under the decals. You can dull it down later, but having a smooth glossy surface helps better with adhesion and avoiding the silvering effect

There should be lots of youtube tutorials that will help

Thanks Analyzer and edge10 for your replies ... I'll await the arrival of the FM kit and then have a look in my entire figure collection if I can find some random small figures to be converted into Han and Chewbacca ... according to the ones on Shapeways ... Chewbacca with seat is about 13 mm in height (?)

Yikes that's tiny. But I love the pose Tony created.

I just ordered another FM Falcon from Ebay. I will build and paint it, and perhaps sell the finished model on Ebay, or perhaps I can sell it here if anyone wants to buy a pro-built FM Falcon model.

Are you going to get Archivex paint now? According to the website it's now available from newtype.us when in the USA, alas I can't confirm this on my mac due to browser issues ... perhaps you, JV1138 or anyone else can confirm this?

Guess what just arrived at the front door! This will be my project for the next few days or weeks, or so. After I finish the build, I will likely sell it here or on Ebay as a pro-built model. Will be posting updates on this thread.

Base coat done, no primer however. This is how I did it on my original FM Falcon. Mr. Color Light Gull Gray was used for the base color, which is close to AX-004, but perhaps just a tad lighter. Next up, decals and panels, and then the canopy and windows.

lighter actually woks out better considering the scaling factor for color

Looks like a great choice
