Batman 1989 Vault weapons display

5/8” collar nuts and threaded rod arrived. They are slightly large, but I think with my scale this is as close as I’ll get. The bolts are nylon and will ultimately not stick out so much. Overall though, this is the look. Rod arrived in 12" segments, so I'm cutting it down into smaller pieces. Some of it will thread into the plates.

Holders for the hinges should arrive tomorrow and the plates within the next 2 weeks.

Hinge cradles are installed. I believe accurately, the cradles go right to the edge of the door, with the hinge cylinders themselves slightly going past, with the bevel extending over the edge.

But in my case, the bottom of the door itself will likely be sitting on the floor, even slightly tilted back. So I don’t want any extra pressure on the bottom hinge, I am installing it just a bit high so that when the door is sitting at 90°, the bottom hinge doesn’t touch the ground.

The top hinge will be placed very slightly higher. The difference will be imperceptible from every angle except right here on my horizontal workbench.

I’ll be continuing to refine the nuts & bolts over the next few weeks while waiting on the hinges and mounting plates to arrive.

Aluminum 5-bolt plates that go next to the hinges arrived and are installed. Next up are the hinge cylinders which should arrive within a day.

Hinge cylinders!

Solid machined Delrin, so they are a bit heavy. But the detail and finish is perfect. I can’t wait to get the small rivets installed and get these mounted.

This is picking back up. Gearbox cylinders will be machined in Delrin and bolted plates will be aluminum.

First time actually standing vertically with the gadgets in it. I have some work to do with some of the heavier pieces to make sure they won’t fall out. And once the foam is properly installed and not just staged in there, that gap at the top will go away.

The final parts aren't expected to arrive from the manufacturer for another month, so not much to update on until then. But hopefully the next update will be the final result.*

*Until Paragon FX releases their super accurate Batarang and I have to update the foam for that.

Indeed it is, and it's very nice. It's the best I'd found and what I settled on before learning Paragon was planning one.
I just picked up their Justice League batarang secondhand for $80. It was just delivered so I’m looking forward to getting off of work and comparing it to the QMx and Noble Collection versions.

Hopefully I can find their 89 for a good deal. It looks nice enough. Almost like an SDS clone with the lines cut in. Strange theyleft the lines off center. Would love to compare it to all the official and unofficial 89s in my collection. Waiting for the Paragon release for that as well.

For anyone curious about the provenance of the gadgets:

Batarang - Ikon design Studio
Gauntlet, spears, ninja wheels, smoke capsules - Made by Guido Kohlen, who used to go by the name GermanBat back in the day on the BOTB boards.
Speargun - Paragon FX
Time Bomb - Printed steel from Shapeways. Model is from some random guy I found.
Tracker and Tranq attachment - Valor Replicas
Emblem - unsure. Bought from someone on BOTB years ago, it’s 3 piece metal.

Final parts are in. Well, mostly.

I’m not 100% happy with how far the wheel stands out, so I’m considering tweaking the design of the gearbox behind it to shave off around 2 inches of height and pull the wheel in a bit closer. Also, these shots are just with staged parts, not secured down yet. Also I will need to paint everything to match.

But still, closer! Hoping to at least have the clamp plates and 2 larger gearbox cylinders attached this week.
