Hey, folks. I'm currently working on a Batman '89 cosplay and have hit a wall. I can't find the boot armor coverings anywhere except foam templates.

I'm also on the lookout for replicas of Joker's guns (the long-barrel and bang-flag) and gadgets (the joy-buzzer). Does anyone have any advice on where to get these pieces? Thanks!

Magnoli could possibly do these as custom props for you

Would this article be of any assistance:
Specifically, this pic of one of the actual pair of boots (apparently):

Also, I found a 3d print version here:

The boots are real, but the armor is not. They are replicas by David Pea. The original armor deteriorated and was replaced by David’s leather armor. He made them years before he had the license with his company Universal Designs.

I have a set. They’re nice.

Also, that’s an interesting read. Mentions the owner of one of the original Returns boots giving it to a restorer who had it for SEVEN YEARS and stopped contacting him and went silent on responses. Then he has to hire a private investigator agency to get it back from him. That man is PJ Wares, aka TheBatSmith, aka Dark Deco Creations. He owes COUNTLESS people money from false promises, including myself for 2 grand. Beware. It’s good to see an article mentioning his shady practices.

Oh that 3D render has a fold down the center that shouldn’t be there. Don’t know why people do that hahaha

Thanks for the info; I didn't realize that about the boots in my first reply post. Also: sad to see way too many charlatans out there (RE PJ Wares)! o_O

Most makers that we reached out to charge quite a bit for just the shin armor and spats. Almost as much as a cowl/cape! So, we wound up making them from a foam template (that we got from an Etsy seller) and having an acquaintance who is a leather-worker craft them.

As far as Joker is concerned, never found a bang-flag gun or long-barrel (saw one that sold, though, after I had given up looking haha). The RydellGallery on Instagram does the Joker '89 Joy-Buzzer, for anyone interested.

There was a run of the long-barrel revolver by peter74 some years back. I managed to get one of the last guns made but the package was opened and inspected by US Customs and they lost/damaged a few pieces.

No one's made a good replica of anything of the Nicholson Joker, ever. There's always a compromise for something some way or another. His bang-flag gun has never been made as far as I've seen. At least, not one that functioned like in the movie. The costume pieces are even harder. Magnoli makes decent boots, but the uppers aren't suede like the originals because he can't color match it. Same with his gloves. I once reached out to him to make the bracers for my own costume and he turned me down. No one's ever made a decent shirt, jacket, or his scarf (which is impossible to find the material, now).

His pants seem to be a holy grail for a niche community. I made an accurate pattern, both for his normal costume and for "Uncle Bingo," for custom woven wool tartans to make the pants, as the originals were done, but it's so costly, there's no way to really make it beyond paying the premiums so it won't ever happen unless I just get some for myself.

I found this all out the hard way, lol. Fun.com had a pretty good base costume that I modified to make more film accurate. The parade-scene tie I had custom printed using a pattern Obsessive Costuming Dude uploaded to Spoonflower (Batman Joker cravat tie - satin Fabric | Spoonflower). The gloves were by Magnoli. AlexArtFX on Etsy was offering the squirting flower (that actually squirts water!), but I don't know if they still are. The braces I found on Ebay from a seller in the U.K.

Everything else was made or customized. The cuff-link waistcoat buttons were actual cuff-links repainted with enamel paints. The shoes were dark brown ankle boots repainted white, then purple and the "suede" portions are a poly-suede. I have an overcoat that I still need to modify and add velvet to the collar to make it more screen-accurate. Didn't find a hat that I was satisfied with, unfortunately! It was fun to do. The prosthetic is by Mostly Dead and the face-paint was PAX paint. The "beret" is just a purple bonnet Amazon had that worked pretty well!
