Avengers Thor Hammer Mjolnir from scratch (sintra)

I'm remaking the whole thing by using my laser cutter to have more precise pieces:

I'm also putting a octagonal base under the side cap of the head, so that when you assemble the hammer, the side caps will just go inside the hammer head so that you'll have just to glue it in place and that will be it ;)

I think this is going to be mold in 3 or 4 parts:

main head part
2 side caps
capstone with tube
handle

This is awesome!
I have access to a laser and scrap plastic, I may have to try this.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Well I guess I've skipped quite a few steps but you can see them here.
I wasn't happy with the way the first handle turned out so I made it again.

This is the prepped for molding hammer:

First mold was a total disaster as I mistakely used one part of Rebound 25 with the hardner of the Mold Max 25.
This was the result:

After that it was just a matter of time. I started pulling the first resin casts:

Then I started cold casting the pieces:

And finally went on to get the final piece:

Hey guys,
it's been quite a few weeks I had in mind to give a shot to this baby and I finally went at it.

I started making the template of the hammer head, thinking that my usual method would work.

I then found out that making a narrow in the sintra and then bending it would affect sizing of the hammer, so I just cut the single pieces and then worked a 22.5° angle with my sander belt.

That just worked out good so I went on to work on the panels of the head using the same method.

Thor's hammer is pretty easy at the beginning stages with this method. Hard part comes when you need to engrave stuff :( The capstone engraving required two tries before I got it right, but the panels are just impossibile to do by hand.

For the capstone I just made the template, printed it on a sticker and then used a edgy tool to engrave the runes

Here's my first try doing the panel engravings:

I'll have to get them laser cut eventually.
I then went on to cut the holes for the capstone and the handle which I made 3.2 cm of diameter. I'll then use a 3mm thick leather to cover it and make 3.8 as it supposed to me.

The hammer measures a little bit more then the 5 inches x 8 and some as seen in the "profile in history" auction catalog for captain america.

Here are the pics of the mockup

Thanks for your attention :D

Nice work on the runes. Most people get them all switched around. I'm pretty sure the one's used in the movie are even guilty of this.

Very nice build there. May I know how do you get the pattern on the side of the hammer done?
I mean the one you engraved on wax and then used resin to get a positive.
You did it manually with hand tools?

It was done on adobe flash and then laser cut.
The wax thing was just a try to see if I could do it myself :D

Thanks for the reply.
would you mind share the file for the runes and pattern on the hammer?
because I was unable to do it free hand. would really appreciate it if you could share it.
but I am also understand that you have the right to not to share them..

Anyway, thanks in advance

Absolutely fantastic job. I'm working on making the Thor version of this out of foam right now and I'm having some trouble figuring something out from reference pictures. Do you know if the spiral pattern is the same in the Thor version as in this one? For that matter, is it even a spiral in Thor? I can't find any reference pictures of it connecting at either end of the handle, but most of the reference pictures I'm finding are of the stunt version.
