1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi Gang,

As I begin to map out the wiring diagram for the console, I wanted to get your suggestions and ideas for what you would like to see. For example... I'm going to purchase a digital picture frame for the Nav Screen (scroll through various star charts) and have a single switch that turns the screen on and off. Another example will be the switches on the armrest of the console will activate several of the LEDs on the panels.

Another idea would be button / switch sounds - activated by different switches.

So, if you have any ideas please let me know! :) Remember - this is for the console only.

Love the idea of the digital picture/photo frame.

As for sounds / lights: There's a couple sequences in the cockpit from the movie that could be cool to include - such as the flashing light in ANH (where Luke exclaims "What's that flash?") and has an associated sound with it.

Some other notable sound effects that I can recall are like the cockpit sounds from ROTJ - though, I'm thinking of the Tydirium shuttle they were Han and Chewied were in (when Han tells Chewie he gets the feeling he won't see the MF again). Mostly humms and buzzes / bleeps. Not sure how hard that would/will be.

The only other thought I had as a possibilty: Not all sounds would come straight from the cockpit. For example, if you were to turn the deflector shields on, you would hear some sort of humm from a generator or something that would be located behind the cockpit -So whether this means you'd have to put speakers in the panels behind the seating area (or, even in fact, throughout the scale model - might need to talk to Chris Lee about that...).

It would be kind of cool hearing the shields getting switched 'on' while people are in the communal/'chess' playing area. :)

Keep up the amazing work! :thumbsup

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Just a quick idea. You asked what the yoke handles might be, and to me they look a lot like the part of a crutch that goes in your armpit once the rubber/foam padding piece is removed. I have no idea what it actually was, but you might check that out...

Edit: After looking around online, I'm nixing the idea of a crutch piece in favor of a cane handle, or possible an archery grip...

Hi G

I've just been investigating the whole sound this recently for my project.

I didn't want to use traditional speakers as it would ruin the esthetics for the prop, so instead lolled into sound induction speakers/exiters and they do a nice bass one that you could use for that authentic space ship rumble.

Hey There, Oldskool,

We're on the wave length.... I'm planning to have the "Deflector Shield" light flash. Not sure how often, but it will definately be part of the "light show".

The whole idea of sound is complicated but not foreign to me. If its too complicated I'll hold off and wait until the build really takes off. I'm sure Chirs Lee has some ideas - especially for the interior hull spaces.

I know things appear to be slowing down, but behind the scenes I'm working and moving... Stay Tuned!

Archery grip? HMMMM... I'll definately look into that. I know I've seen something with that familiar shape but I CANNOT put my finger on it...

Thanks for the lead!

Good Stuff! I'm sure Chris Lee has something special planned. It would be a real experience to walk into the hull and hear the sounds of the engines come to life and all the other bells and whistles throughout the ship.

I'll forward the link to him. :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hey Gang,

As I begin to put together the necessary pieces for all the LEDs, Buttons, etc. it would appear that I am going to have to completely recreate the upper and lower instrument panels... both sides.

I never accounted for the depth of the wires and buttons when I originally built the panels. Many pieces I have built - the back boxes - will have to be scraped in favor of a new design.

As always, I will try to stay true to overall look and feel and with all the greeblies you guys have been sending... I'll be sure to make good use of whatever I can! :)

Stay Tuned!

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

That's a tough break! I'm sure you'll get it squared away in no time though. Good Luck!

If the console itself is too deep in areas for swithces and such, can you not just router out the backside areas to thin them, rather than starting over?

Hi Hammer,

I've considered it, but some of the buttons are just too deep compared to the console that I think overall it might be a better idea just to start over. Plus it will allow me to start with thinner material and cut all the holes necessary prior to painting and detailing.

Remember, this console was originally designed to be a static model only. I never had any intention to add any lights. As it progressed and I got a little bolder with the design and adding lights... It just made more sense to start over.

However... maybe I should start the new console now and just keep the static version static? HMMMM... See what you did? You made me think and hurt my brain! ;)

Hi E,

I dont really look at it that way. I always knew I was going to create a second console. As I explained to Hammer, maybe this is the time to start over and rid myself not only of the horrible Formica but the horrible paint job and other little things that continally plague the build.

The primer I used on the Formica STILL hasn't properly cured. I find out EVERYTIME I drill a hole into the console. It's very frustrating... :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

?Well a static module for the living room and the real McCoy for the Falcon.

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

Hi G

Got your packege in the mail yesterday :thumbsup they aren't the type I was expecting, but I shall see what I can do with them. I could still buy one of those platic paddle types and do a bunch of those as well, I'm pretty sure the falcon has one or two (like these):

Hi G,

Not only that... but I can use the static model as the base for any practice and new ideas... But yes... sitting in the living room in front of the TV - would be pretty cool!

That gives me an idea!!!! :)

Re: 1:1 Millennium Falcon Console Replica

These choices sometimes are tough, but I am sure you will be happier in the end.

Hey Fuzz,

Absolutely! Unfortunately, I wont be able to start this weekend - have to go out of town. I'm still working with a CNC specialist to make ALL the correct angle cuts. When finished, all I have to do attach everything together, a little sanding, a little filler and primer and then paint. None of that horrible Formica!

But this time I'll take a little more time and get ALL the LED, buttons and other various holes and mounts done first.

I'm very excited! Mostly...

Hey C,

Yeah... those are the real "MINI" type swicthes. Do your best - if they're too small - no worries. :)

How are the other projects coming?

Yes...make the Millennium Falcon cockpit into a theater room. When not watching a movie you can have space scenes displayed on the projector to make it look like a ship's view screen to add to the realism. Lol.

:eek That idea is KILLER! It would be cool if the surrounding MF cockpit window was on the screen, also.
