Spidey on a budget? Is it possible? HELP NEEDED!!!

Greeting fellow RPFers!
I love Spider-Man and have for as long as I can remember wanted a proper Spidey suit. But at the moment I don't have the budget to buy spandex and other expensive materials for a suit. So do you know if I could make a fairly accurate Spider-Man costume for free (or as close to free as possible)? I've already found a spandex mask on eBay, so all I need is a costume. Any ideas?

If I was in your position I would either go with a cheap zentai spiderman suit and either keep the webs on or off(which ever you prefer) I would keep them off and make my own weblines and either puffy paint them or go around them with a black fabric marker. For lenses if they are in your budget I would go for tjacks.(I own the bigger ASM2 lenses and the Lense/faceshell combo from him which is amazing)... Anyways I hope this helped somewhat and good luck my friend!

Any zentai suit will print and sow it for you for about 50 to 75 dollars plus shipping.
All depending on how good you want it to look you can add puffpaint. Which, depending on where you get it and how much you want to use can run you another~30-40 dollars.
Then there is the sole options, but I think most zentai places offer that as an option, me it cost me 20$.

EDIT: Wouldn't I be able to make a basic suit using a couple of t-shirts and a pair of jeans? Sort of like a cross between the Human Spider and the Vigilante Spider-Man? If I decided to go down that route, it would cost about £10 altogether, given that I already have most of the components for the costume. All I need now is the mask (which will arrive soon) and the shirts.

Make the Vigilante Spiderman. Or your own take on the suit completely.

My aim is to make a hybrid of the three suits mentioned above. I'll have a plain red mask (Vigilante) with a custom blue and red Spidey shirt (Mangaverse Spidey) and a pair of jeans (Mangaverse). For the shoes I'll have a pair of red trainers (Human Spider). I won't be having gloves as these would get in the way of my character's wall-crawling abilities.

Lastly, I'll have an alternate top that will be made from a red hoodie (similar to SPIDER-Device's costume on YouTube). This will be created for those cold winter months when Spidey needs to take the chill off his bones. :D

Diagrams and progress photos coming soon. Looking forward to your feedback. :)

+sub, i'm really interested to see what you can do on an almost zero budget, and its always nice seeing something different

I hope you don't plan on going to any conventions with that costume. Most people are gonna say it sucks unless it's the traditional red and blue suit. I've learned this from experience.

Thanks man! I'm new to costume making, so progress might be slow over the next couple of weeks.

You should look at Spidersparrow and Iracel's builds for budget suits.
Will do. Though to be honest, even those two had a bigger budget than I do.

There aren't many conventions to go to in my area anyway. Besides, I've had my fair share of egotists who think their costumes are better than everyone elses. I'm curious; which suit did you build that was insulted? Or was it someone elses suit?

Well, enough for now. Expect some updates soon!

That really sucks, nobody should ever insult your hard work. obviously pointers are always great to help you progress next time, But cosplaying should always be about having fun.

Hey make whatever you can, it's not so much about how accurate it looks, but more on how you feel while wearing it. Forget about what JDvaughan17 said, people go to conventions because they love it. I for one love seeing original costumes, and people who love the superhero community. This is why I am on this site. DO YOUR BEST and post pic's along the way. I know we all would love to see your progress. KEEP IT UP young man, we all have to start somewhere.

Peek73 Thanks for the encouragement! I found a couple of shirts at the back of my wardrobe that are perfect for the costume! I also have some old red trainers. All I need now is the mask (which will arrive by the 19th of September, according to eBay) and some web shooters, which I will build myself.

UPDATE!!!

Here are the shirts I'll be using for the suit:
blue shirt.jpgred shirt.jpg
I'll draw the pattern onto the red shirt and then I'll put the blue shirt inside the red one, before cutting the pattern out with a pair of scissors. Finally, I'll print out the spider designs and trace them onto fabric. They will then be glued (or stitched) onto the shirt, thus completing the suit!
For the mask, I'll just make (or buy) some lenses and glue them into place. Simple! :)
That's all for now, tell me your thoughts and ideas below. All criticism and advice will be gladly appreciated! :)

I have a few questions:

1. Would the t-shirts fray if I cut them with scissors?
2. Would it be easier/more convenient to stitch the shirts together or glue them?
3. Which material would be better for the spiders: fabric or felt? Or is there an even better option?
4. Should I glue the spiders onto the costume or stitch them?
5. Do you recommend a suitable material or method for the eye lenses? Bearing in mind that whatever I do needs to be cheap and simple, as I have no skill with moulding, etc.
