Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Pre-release)

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

Yes. A.C. Crispin did a Han Solo trilogy which was very good. So if they ever do a movie they will have to ignore that.

I remember reading the Han Solo trilogy, in fact I'm pretty sure I still have them. It's been decades since I've read them but I don't remember any of the three telling the story of how he met Chewie.

All I remember was the Falcon running on something called Fluidics and some fighter ship called a Headhunter.

Re: Re: Star Wars Standalone Films

Yes, I agree with you.

Was there ever an EU story that officially told the story of him meeting up with Chewie?

If there is an actual story then I concede. Right now I am only speculating.

I don't know of a specific story written entirely about this. There was mention in several different revisions of the Star Wars Encyclopedia's. There were also several different Han Solo Novel Trilogy that reference the back story. Reading all of them you can peice together an aweful lot about the story.

There was a very big deal made about the continuity from film to novel to novel, when written. Which George Lucas shot to hell when he made the prequals.

That being said, after growing up reading alot of the EU Novels, and comic adaptions. I would say, there is more to Han Solo than is shown in The Original Trilogy. The novels show a broad view of good and bad in both young and old Han Solo. But the novels seem to mean jack to Lucas Film now.

You're thinking of the Brian Daley Han Solo trilogy that were out in the 80s. The A.C. Crispin books were either late 90's or early 00's.

2006 DVD set had them as a bonus disc, there are several VHS versions, as well as the laserdisc.

In "not so legal" forms it's available in HD via digital download.

Just wait for the Episode 1-9 Ultimate Disney 3D Blu Ray Boxed Set with all versions and new documentaries.

You know they will make it because they know I will buy it.

Move along. Move along.

The Z-95 Headhunter was, I think, first introduced in the Zahn novels, or possibly in the West End Games Star Wars RPG and later incorporated into the Zahn stuff.

new STAR WARS stand-alone / 'non-trilogy' movies

I thought i'd pass on an interesting conversation I just had with two friends
[One of whom is in a senior position within TWDC (Europe)].

Inevitably, the topic of Star Wars came up. Most of the conversation
was conjecture and anticipation. However, when talk turned to the
stand-alone character-based movies we
mentioned the rumours of Young Solo and Yoda.

Our Disney friend chuckled and shook his head.

"Think about who is constantly voted the number one movie villain of all time?"

Re: new STAR WARS stand-alone / 'non-trilogy' movies

I could go for some Vader in between ROTS and SW. :thumbsup

I've stated that as opinion repeatedly and will do so again... Yes! And he must have the Emperor at the other end of his leash or it will only be "great" instead of "spectacular"...!

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I'd prefer the original TV series notion....but only if it could be executed REALLY well, which I rather doubt it'd be at this point.

I'd kind of like to get away from Vader, though, and the glorification of the guy. I mean, lest we lose sight of the fact...he's a mass-murdering war criminal. Yeah, he found redemption, but he blew up planets, kills people left and right just for cheesing him off, and slaughtered a group of kids.

And he did it all because he's got separation anxiety and misses his mom.

re: Star Wars Standalone Film (Dir: Gareth Edwards)

I don't care if it's on tv or the big screen, as long as it comes.

...and the glorification of the guy...

That's part of why I would like to see him between ROTS and SW.

In SW he was a guy with a reputation, at the end of ROTS nobody but the Emperor, Obi, and Yoda knows who he is. Let's see him being an evil ******* and building that reputation.

As long as there isn't any late night crying in his isolation chamber...

But you know there would be. Or you know that he wouldn't be anywhere near the badass you want him to be. They'd make him more in keeping with the PT, I expect, which would mean he'd be less ruthless and more whiny.
