New Hasbro 30" X-Wing Toy - Impressions

Found them at ToyrsRus Brisbane for $79.....will go have a look tomorrow....god if it's big like people say...my wife is going to kill me...will have to hide it with my stripper money and Nazi gold;)

How critical does anyone think it is to get two to make separated wings???

They are barely worth $40 bucks they are cheap mil plastic, they are cool because
of the size thats about it.....I picked one up today. Just scratch build the other set if you
can especially for the prices you guys are paying outside the US......HELL NO! LMAO

Well, here is my final version of my first attempt. Now, I do not try to believe that I have even one tenth of the painting skills as most of you here do, so I realize it is not that great, and by no means screen accurate, but it will serve my purpose. So please be kind.

Weathering is an art form all by itself.....as the king of weathering :lol:lol I will say you've done an acceptable job, but it's right on the boarder of too much 'just airbrush some black around on it'.....it's very easy to go mental with the black spray to the point it's not weathering, it just looks like the ship went through a soot storm;)....but I don't mind yours......hey you did ask right;)

How can you hide something that BIG?

Are you referring to all the stripper money I have stashed...or the Nazi gold??:lol:lol

That's what I was thinking...buy it and scratch build the other wings and anything else......yep size and fuselage seem to be the positives.

I kind of wish now that I had dirtied up Artoo a little bit, but once he is in there--he is in there. Oh well. Can anyone tell me if the Artoo is the same size as the action figures? I was thinking of maybe getting a different R2 unit for the next one.

Time to dismantle the second one and get to work again.

NICE! Can you please post a pic of the back end ? the butt plate area

That would be about the extent of what I think I would do with it. I think the only other thing I would do is either scan the decals and transfer them onto Testor decal paper or do paint applications.

Labspector.

I like the quick and dirty toy conversions. The great thing about this toy is the dimensions. I would try to chip off the colors like they have been chipped off over the years. Also, when it comes to X -Wings an MF's.......50 shades of grey my friend. Every panel is painted a different shade of white with a little space 'soot' and rust and ??. Look over the reference pics all over the net and get the general 'feel' for the girl.

With that said...I like your bird. It shows what can be had with a little effort and $50....toy conversions are awesome!!!!!!

Yeah, I don't have an airbrush, so spray paint and drybrush is all I have to work with, so I think I will go with RogueTrooper's story and just say it went through a soot storm. Surely there is an EU story somewhere where that happened. :D

I finally went and got one....and this thing IS HUGE!!....tried to get some scale pics to show just how big it is....impressive, most impressive;)...it makes my 1:1 scale e11 look like a scaled down version

Yeah, it wasn't until I got the first one finished, a couple of weeks after it came in, that I finally got it all put together and realized how big this sucker is!

I always wanted to build a big X Wing, something way bigger than 1/48....I thought about scratch building about the size of this hasbro beast as anything bigger gets too big inside a room to hang, so it is the perfect size to get started......and even though many RPF experts say it has accuracy problems, for me, it looks really good.

Open the wings, cut the cockpit, cut the cockpit glass panels, paint, weather and hang...sweet:D

Am I the only one who is pretty okay with the closed wings? After all, the only time we ever actually see Luke's X-Wing with the S-Foils in attack position is during the Battle of Yavin. Every time it's in ESB and the glimpses in ROTJ, the wings are closed. I have enough X-Wings with open wings already.

Oh well, just a thought... I'm looking forward to seeing all the open wing conversions that will crop up.

I prefer the closed winged look as well.

Unless the closed wing is set in a diorama as in ready to fly or maintenance, it just looks weird (IMHO) all by itself. I suppose in a display with other props is good, but nothing beats a well hung X-Wing:lol......I hope they bring out a similar scale Tie Fighter, years ago I had them both set in an aerial combat scene from my ceiling, with really thin mono wire, it looked cool

A tie bomber in this size would be great.

Rebelscum.com posted a great pic to illustrate the size.
