I have a question

So I am newer to model making and I am thinking about 3d printing part of a model I am working on. Being newer to model making and all I am not sure if this is frowned upon. I am designing every aspect of the model I am printing myself and [rinting it on my own printer. I will still be adding more detail on top of it that will be done by hand, so is this frowned upon?

When scratch building use anything that works. Clay, wood, 3d printed parts, old vacuum cleaner parts etc.
You can get rid of layers lines by using a .1 or .05 layer height. Also you can cover it with a two part liquid epoxy.
If it's a fairly flat piece you may even be able to just glue a piece of sheet styrene on top. Then add the details to that.
