Smooth paint finish

Hey all!

I'm going to be painting a semi truck cab soon on a build. I was wondering what everyone does to get the glass smooth finish on car bodies. I'll be using an airbrush.

The truck I'm building is (right bow) the tractor from Duel, so it'll be weathered extensively, but I'm painting it a metallic copper first, with gloss black fenders.

Thanks!

Plenty of tutorial videos online, but thin coats and much rubbing down/polishing is the norm. Many prefer fine pigment specialist enamel paints. Probably best to practice on test pieces first. Be wary of reactions between paints, check the compatibility of your colour coats.

you can achieve a pretty smooth finish with Tamiya off the shelves spray cans, but like you said dont waste time trying to get a perfect smooth finish since it has to be weathered quite a bit.

Meguiars scratch X is an awesome polish, it'll shine your plastic up until you see your face. wrinkles and all. You can use it on car headlights too if they get fogged up from use. It's like the WD-40 of polish.
