My ENT Desert Uniform Observations with the intention of eventually recreating them

Alex of Bad Wolf Costumes was so kind as to share his collection of Enterprise Desert Uniform research with me. While I am away from the sewing table working on my blue ENT jumper I have been studying this one with the intention of eventually recreating it. Here is the beginnings of my observations.

So what is the consensus on this ?

Custom made or a found item modifyed for the Show?

Re: My ENT Desert Uniform Observations with the intention of eventually recreating th

Oh, I'm convinced it's custom.

Re: My ENT Desert Uniform Observations with the intention of eventually recreating th

Great research.
Even if it was a modified off the shelf shirt after all these years the best way to recreate it would be a full custom.

Just look how quickly the off the shelf stuff from Oblivion and The Winter Soldier disappeared.

Some more observations this time focusing on the pants. No huge revelations, just a few things to take note of.

Sulla, although I have nothing constructive to actually add to this, I just want to say research like this is what I love about the RPF. Thanks for sharing and great work.

Not a big deal, but I believe I have ID'd Archers backpack from season four starting in the episode, "The Forge". It is Czechoslovakian 2-pocket drawstring M-60 rucksack with a Y-Strap configuration. They do not appear to be difficult to find.

Sorry about the crappy screen grabs. My laptop had some troubles, these were from my phone.

Re: My ENT Desert Uniform Observations with the intention of eventually recreating th

Also, this appears to be the only image I can find from all the publicity stills, screen grabs, and auction photos that gives us a clue as to whats going on inside the collar of the shirt behind those black stripes. Anyone have any suggestions?

These are from about 18:40 in the episode The Forge, season 4. Alas, these are the best screen grabs I could make. I do not yet own the Blu Ray (if they are any better resolution, I dunno.)

My preliminary thoughts on attaching the shirt piping based on the above evidence.

(Please forgive the crude drawings)

This is great analysis and picture grabs. Looks like a logical construction method. Does the #6 step fold in the hole or fold flat ?

Thanks. Good Question.

I think I have seen evidence of both. Reference some of the collar pics in post #1 and post #8. I like the folded flat (maybe even trimming some of the allowance to minimize the bulk.) Folding over the top edge of the collar would look odd if short allowance used, or would have to fold all the way over into the inner collar seam to make sense (to me.) so folding flat minimizes work and material used. plus I would think the piping folded over the collar would add visible bulk when zipped up and be uncomfortable.

Looking at the jacket. A few first impressions.

Re: My ENT Desert Uniform Observations with the intention of eventually recreating th

I went ahead and got some swatches and after comparing a good number of them I decided to use this tan Bull Denim and this Jersey knit 12 oz. Spandex. My thanks to Alex of Bad Wolf Costumes giving me a lead on the shirt fabric.

Re: My ENT Desert Uniform Observations with the intention of eventually recreating th

Thanks. Unfortunately I have not had the time to dedicate to this uniform in the past month or so. I did see this while reviewing the pictures this morning.
