Klingon---Maroon/Brown/Red-Brown--Color?
Anyone have a good paint color reference for the reddish-brown Klingon Weapons/Props?

I have tried to find a good match but it always seems a little off?

A rattle can # or name... Or regular Paint Name would be much appreciated from anyone
who knows to color or a good match?

Thanks

What I use is a Ruddy Red primer and then dirty it up with a misting of black with an airbrush.

I used to work with Richard Coyle who made props for the TOS films.

Zynolyte red oxide rattlecan paint is what was used for the pieces in ST4 and 6 and for the Klingon tricorder used in Next Gen. During my brief time working with him that is what we used for the fan props as well.

A very close substitute for the Zynolyte was a red oxide that Walmart had that came in a blue label. I forget the maker but holding the paint side by side it was an eyestrain to see the difference.

Ruddy Brown Primer - Follow-up:
Color looks great:D

Just wondering the best practice to use and finish a "primer" because it seems so "Chalky" and scratchy.
Can you apply a nice clear-coat or would that mess it up?

Any insights or suggestions much appreciated...

Thanks again!

I used a grey primer.
Then a heavier silver coat.
Then I put just enough ruddy brown to cover the silver.
With a scotch brite sanding pad I'd scuff the areas where it would like the holster would wear on the piece.

It's a nicer look than smearing silver paint because it it more closely like worn paint because it IS worn paint.
I used this technuque in the pieces shown in post #8 of this thread.
