For the handle details, I sculpted one piece on the handle with epoxy sculpt, removed it before it fully cured and mounted it on for moulding. was left with 4 identical pieces which i then fixed to the handle.

The ribbon detail created using half tube styrene rods.

I have been making progress with this, just haven't had much of a chance to update, so here is a quicky.

I 3D modelled eye , couldn't resist the render :)
Then I used the CNC to cut it out, with fantastic results.

Next up I wanted to add some contrast in textures on the crossguard. I applied pva glue to the recesses and then sprinkled with model railway gravel flock. once it was dry I dusted away the excess. With a couple of layers of paint this should resemble a rough brushed metal effect.

I know its been a while coming, but I'm planning on molding this sword, and another exciting piece I've been working on over the weekend, fingers crossed there is no setbacks.

finishing touches to the build :)

This part I've been dreading, the sculptural detail where the hilt meets the cross guard. I knew I could manage it, just knew it would take some time. I was right!
Instead of sculpting it whilst attached to the cross guard, i places a square of acrylic the same dimensions as the base, made life a lot easier.

after a few failed attempts i finally managed to get it reasonably symmetrical. I'll wait for the epoxy sculpt to cure, then i can get a decent finished by sanding.

And finally, attaching the Eye of Thundara. (had to use the red primer, looks much cooler)

So that's it just about ready for molding. Need to spend some time doing the last bit of sanding and filling, but hoping that i should have cast ready for early next week.

I'm going to do a 2 part cast, and will be somewhat hollow. having it in 2 pieces will make the kits a lot cheaper for shipping, the box won't need to be so long. It will a also allow for weights to be added easily to both the body and the handle, should anyone so desire.

I'll start a 'Interest' thread in the Junkyard later. I'm going on annual leave at the end of next week, so i could do with getting the cast pulled and shipped before I go.
