Megamind Costume

Hi everyone! I've been on RPF for at least a few months now, but this is my first post. I was recently commissioned to make a Megamind costume.

While I had a handle on all the leather and fabric parts, the emblems were a different set of skills altogether, so I worked with fellow RPF member Fevereon.

Here are some photos!

I've attached the final photos as regular attachments.

Thanks for looking!

awesome! Would've never thought this could be pulled off so well as a real costume, talented work! Curious as well, are you doing a mask to go along with it?

I did some searching online for a 'close enough' watch but came up with nothing. My son was obsessed with the Megamind watch for a while. We also got plastic liquid filled ice cubes at the dollar store since they looked like the dehydrated cubes from the dehydration gun.

They also had light blue rubber dish washing gloves my son got so he'd have Megamind hands.

Wow. That's all I really have. Just...wow. Wish I had skills like that. Looks incredible. Again, wow.

Hey, let's talk about the boots. I understand building the uppers, but did you go back and cover the toe or is the upper like a spat? In the picture it looks like it's sewed as a cap, if so is it sewed to the donor shoe or is the toe covered by your piece?
I'm really curious on the cobbling end these days.
Laffo.

Thank you for all the nice comments.

Laffo, the covers do indeed cover the entire shoe, including the toe box. I made the upper portion of the cover first. That upper portion has a leather outer and cotton duck lining. Then, I took another piece of leather, cut one side with a straight edge, and sewed it to the front of the upper cover. After applying glue to both the leather and the base shoe, and letting it get tacky, I stretched the extra piece of leather over the toe box. This part went easier than I thought it would, as the leather stretched very nicely. There are also a few tacking stitches that go through the cover and the base shoe for extra security, closer to the sole. Those were done with an awl and some hand sewing.

Here is a photo of the boots drying. I keep everything held in place with sewing pins stabbed through the base shoe. I trimmed up the leather evenly with the sole for this pair, but other times I've covered shoes like this (in more vibrant colors), I've covered the transition with a trim.
